Thermal grease

I'm going to replace my relic k7s5a w/nf7-s v2, and wanted to know which brand of Therm grease I should consider. My cpu is Athlon xp 2400 T-bred w/stock heatsink and fan. No OC'ing.

Arctic silver 5.

I'd recommend Ceramique, myself. Easiest HSF gunk to use that there ever was, and AS3 temps.

I didnt realize there was different difficulty levels for different pastes. Put a bit on heatsink, take an envelope or postcard-thickness paper, pick a little bit up on an edge, and schmear it over the core.

I read in some reviews that AS5 achieves lower temps than AS3, so I would go with that. I picked up a small tube at svc for $6, I think they have free shipping for AS5 last time I checked. I just remounted my heatsink yesterday with AS5 instead of the generic stuff and already noticing lower temperatures.

Artic Silver 5. Also it does bleed or run so you shouldn't have reapply it like others.

Yeah, but we're dealing with the retail heatsink, here...the difference will not be enough to worry about on any retail XP heatsink.
I just recommend Ceramique even for a retail one because it is even easier to use then generic, and that little 2.7g tube will do dozens of CPUs.

If you apply any grease to an XP, and remove the heatsink weeks or months later, and can read "Athlon XP" on the heatsink, you've done a good enough job .

with ceramique do you just put a drop on the slug and let the HSF "smush factor" do the rest?

Ceramique? I'm not familiar with that. But if it contains ceramic materials, it can't possibly be better than Arctic Silver 5 or Geil Copper. Ceramic is a nonconductive, insulator. It retains heat. If this is just a name, then disregard my concerns.
