Decent looking site, nice reseller ratings and certainly competetive pricing. How's the shipping rates?
Love that AX-7 for $15.00. I'm an SVC guy until I hear more!

I have ordered from both svc and case-mod. Both places are great. Case mod has real shipping just like svc so dont worry about that. If you need a heatsink give them a try.

In my experience with the two the 800 is a little better than the SK-7 but if you're using a low CFM fan you will get roughly the same performance out of the two so the $10 difference isn't really justified if you go that route.. if you're going to use a tornado do yourself a favor and get the 800..

Either of the two have certain oddities in their install that could cause problems for those who don't double check their install:

The 800 it won't sit as easily on the CPU because it's actually more narrow than the CPU itself (which was scary at first but not so bad as it comes with new pads you can stick on in the place of the ones already on AMD CPU's that become useless with the 800) install it carefully and with the motherboard (or tray if you have that option) out of the case itself to make it easier to see what your doing..

The Sk-7 has it's own problem with being a little too big on the CPU socket (it's very close between it and the socket hump when seated) so just make sure when you install it to keep the clip as close to the back of the heatsink as you can when attaching the back of the clip or it will attach to the socket at an angle (NOT GOOD) and you might fry your processor if you power it up without reseating the heatsink properly first..

All of my heatsink money will be going to SVC, they have treated me far too good to start spreading my money
to other dealers. If you like SVC then keep your money there ...they need it.

Thanks for the post. I stopped shopping at SVC and had been looking for a reliable source for heatsinks.

Oh, and BTW these prices are $5.00 cheaper at Case-Mod at the moment. (SVC is $34.99 for the 800)

Last time I checked, SVC's prices are higher except on the SK-7 model which is equal... see here.

Another reason I favored Case-Mod is due to SVC's payment policy when shipping to an alternate address. It states:

"Note: If your billing and shipping addresses do not match:

1. The shipping address must be filed with the credit card company.
2. The credit card company's telephone number must be entered on the order form.

If these two conditions are not met, your order will be placed on hold and will be delayed indefinitely."

Some of us don't happen to have our school addresses listed with our credit card companies so this deterred me from ordering from them. (I'm not lazy, it's just a pain in the butt to go through this w/ my issuer.)

About shipping to different addresses on SVC orders, I think it's a good thing...improves security. If you're fussed about it, you might as well write a little note in the comment box, and call them immediately to authorize the charge yourself to avoid the hold.

With that said, SVC treats me well; I buy 95% of the cooling stuff from SVC, and the other 5% from bestbyte.net. Although that AX7 for $15 is really attractive though, maybe I should stock up on that

Thermalright? guess they're trying to leech off the "Thermaltake" brand name. hehe

? I doubt that. The thermal solutions by Thermalright are at least a notch above Thermaltake. That would be like BMW stealing a name from GMC.

The shipping rates for these guys are higher than SVC thus this deal is not worth signing up there since svc has more or less the same prices with less shipping ripoff.

Is there a relatively recent comparison of various HSF combos with data on cooling power vs. noise for all the HSFs?

I'm a big fan of Case-Mod. They've treated me well, and done right by me and my money.

My only complaint would be with Airborne Express, their tracking is slow to update. Seems it's a day behind or so.

Edit:
Oh, and the thermalright heatsinks are far better than the thermaltekes. I've only put thermalright heatsinks on my processors anymore. Currently I've got the sk-8 and it cools my amd1700+ to 47C. OCed to 2.08ghz and at full load.

Thanks for the response re: shipping, lizardman. I'll put 'em in my TechShop favs.

As to Thermaltake vs. Thermalright... take my advice and make the right choice- Thermalright takes it!
No contest!

Completely agreed, as I have burned up a cpu because of this. In fact i had not even thought of checking since my previous heatsink (Volcano 6Cu) was an automatic nice fit. The sk-7 thus challenged my ignorance. The the sk-7 is very nice indeed.

Would you say that these prices are worth the improvement over the SK6+ from SVC with a average speed 60 mm fan or are the AX-7 SK7 worth one and a half to double the price?

And at what amount of airflow is thre no real improvement over the AX7?

Thanks

Just a note about SVC. I RMA'd a TT SmartFan2 that stopped working after four months. I told them I didn't want a replacement. So they sent me a check for my purchase price and shipping costs.
