maybe, you could undervolt the fan, but read the review; I would only get this if I were comfortable with the (apparently) arduous installation process. Apparently it took the reviewer at techpowerup about an hour to install.

I always think why not get the Home Air conditioning duct extended into the PC case somehow.

In the winters just have a duct from outside running cold air in.

Is this an upgrade on the stock 7900GT KO cooler? Does it contact the memory chips?

If you google it they will come. Reviews of this cooler that is. I saw this on the egg, and looked into it. It can run passive, and it also has the option for a second 80mm fan. Only good for DX9 card though.

I have one on my 6600GT. Stock ran 90C, Zalman VF700 ran 65C, and the Thermalright V1-Ultra barely breaks 50C (load temps). It's a b!tch to install, but just be patient and line everything up and you'll get great temps.

not sure where u are, but where I'm at - my windows always have mild condensation (at night or during winter time). Can't be good for electronics.

That makes it even better - added water cooling.

That is usually not a problem in winters as its very dry in winters.
And in summers you use the AC duct which is as such de-humidified dry air.

Actually, this wasn't a *bad* cooler, as long as you ran two fans on it...

If you'll look at the Newegg & TPU pics closely, you'll see holes drilled in the four corners of the heatsink. These were for mounting a second fan!

Anyway, good find! If you're looking for a cheap way to put 'lipstick on a pig' these things will do the trick, given enough air & LED fans...
