svc.com has the thermaltake 120mm fans "rated" at 78cfm at 21db for only 4 bucks for one (normal price at 12 bucks). Now i know TT lies about their ratings all the time but are these fans good at all? Do they push a reasonable amount of air at a reasonable noise level? im about to buy 4 of these but i dont want freaking tornados in my comp again

I have one of them on the rear of my case. Luckily I have a Zalman Fanmate controller to limit the speed because the fan is loud on max.

The fan that came with the Big Typhoon is actually decent. I believe it's a rebadged Yate Loon D12SL-12. ~1300rpm.

Why use thermaltake when you have so many others available on the market. They are cheap fans, put em in the same catagory as generic fans. If they were given to me i wouldn't use em. So why consider them?

Don't get em - I had a few thermaltake smart fan and they are WAY TOO LOUD

-And when you turn them down to a reasonable level they barely move any air

-Get Nexus or Yate Loon, they are hands down the best 120mm fans

retail its a $13 fan, this is the OEM, thats why its at such a low price

im not overly concerned about sound, im already running 40db on 3 fans, and my cpu fan at 46db.

lol 78CFM @ 21 dBA? Who would actually believe such claims . . . . . . that is the Thunderblade correct? Compare that with the specs for their 120mm Smart Fan which states 38FM @ 17 dBA and 46 dBA @ 94 CFM. Based on those numbers I would assume the actual noise is somewhere between 30-35 dBA . . .

But yeah get the Coolermaster ones if you want correct ratings . . .

I've always heard great things about the 2, but what about Sanyo Denki? The cfm and dba ratings seem to be unparalleled.

Ther thermaltake fans are way too loud but....
If you are using a fan speed controller then get the thermaltake fans!!
They are in no way a generic fan!
What I do is when I am gaming I crank the thermaltake Smart fan all the way!!
My other fans are all Coolermaster fans!
let me points out that even if you are over clocking theres only so musch cooling a fan can do..mainly becuase it is limited by the effectiveness of the heatsink.

I have experimented with fan speeds and over clocking and I will tell you my temps did not change a bit even with the thermaltake cranked all the weay up and my over clock was 4.0 mhz!!
Anything over approx 40 - 50 cfm will not affect your temps!!

In fact I have 2 other coolermaster 120 mm fans just sitting waiting for me to ditch the thermaltake!!

The coolermaster fans need no fan speed controller even at max rpms they are quiet!!

Its actully called Lightning Bolt technolgy the fan blade takes the energy of nearby storms and produces a storm within itself! Its some serious stuff.

How about quality? Is babysitting the fan, watching it from time to time putting your nice cpu/gfx at risk worth a buck or 2? If not I got a hand full or dead thermaltake fans from clients if you want some.

You can find alot of quality fans for $4.

That's not the case with Athlon 64 procs at relatively high voltages (1.55-1.6) . . .

Sorry to disappoint you but my CPU runs hotter than any athlon and its really it is the case...truthfully!!
I have even asked frirends who own athlons who are heavily into air cooling.
But its your opinion -- so thats cooooo

OEMs arent refurbs. They are most likely ones taken from the TT cases. SVC always have somekind of low price like this. Anyway, if it does go out, i can always contact svc, and it wont cause damage since im using it as case fans

Well it's not really an opinion. For me it's a fact . . . (difference of 8C as I've mentioned before) I guess it may be different for other people . . .

Also an XP-90C is better than an XP-120 so it's not because the heatsink is of lower quality . . .

Also tell me that a 220 CFM Delta wouldn't cool your CPU better than a 40-50 CFM fan . . .

I got them today, installed them, and wow.. they are so nice. they definately dont push 71 cfm, more about 50-60 at about a 25db. (just with my ears listening). with all 4 fans in my p180.. temps dropped dramatically, motherboard temp down to 35C from 40s, GPU down to low 40s from mid 50s, Hard drives down to high 20s/low 30s.

For $4 bucks each these were so worth it. Ive traced back what has been making the most noise in my system, my stock 7800GTX fan (omg its a lawn mower at boot) and my cpu fan (a 46db panaflo =P)
