Seeing the overclockers.com review here makes me say that you should be ok. They found that it had a C/W of 0.36. Intel's stock heatsink/fan has a C/W of 0.46 (lower is better).

So unless Intel uses a different heatsink/fan combo for the 3.0C's than the other P4's, or unless you are planning on overclocking, you should be ok. If you are just using watercooling to quiet things down and not up the speed, you will probably be fine.

You could always e-mail TT and ask them.

If you do get this kit I would reccomend lapping that waterblock because it looks pretty rough from review photos.

Yep, use sandpaper. Go from low to hi grit, and make it as smooth and flat as possible.

It does have a pretty rough finish. Compared to my Swifty MC462, the Thermaltake's finish looks like the surface of the moon. It did a decent job cooling my 2.53b running about 3c lower at idle and 8c lower under load then the stock hsf.
Thanks for the advice guys.

For lapping...

Buy 200grit, 400grit, 600grit, and 800grit industrial wet/dry sandpaper or get as near to those numbers as you can. Above 800grit will get you a more mirror finish, but extensive testing results I read on another forum showed that above 800grit yields less then a 0.5C difference in temps, usually unnoticeable. Do it if you want to, but not worth it by any stretch of the imagination unless you want to take a picture of your mirror finish to hang on your wall.

Get a bucket of luke warm water and add a drop of dish soap. Wet the sandpaper and the bottom of the heatsink/waterblock thoroughly and slide it across in one direction without putting too much pressure on it. Let the weight of the heatsink/waterblock do the work. When you get to the end of the paper pick up the heatsink/waterblock and bring it back to the beginning of the paper. Repeat. Some suggest going in circular motions or alternating your directions, but anyone who works with tools will know that going one direction the ENTIRE time will yield the best results. Switching directions will cause uneven areas. Be sure to wet and change the sandpaper regularly and rinse the heatsink/waterblock regularly.

A good way to know when you can move up to the next grit is to make an X on the bottom of the heatsink/waterblock with a permanent marker and lap until it's gone. Then move up to the next grit. Once you finish with the 800grit and get rid of the X completely you should rinse the bottom thoroughly and then use pressurized air to make sure you get all the particles out of the minute spaces. Now you're ready to apply Nanotherm PCM+ and put it on your CPU

but anyhow hey sure leeperpsu pm me and we can see what we can do. what if i install this thing but get a more expensive pump put on it? will that give me better results? im thinking that i will also take my tornado fan and replace the thermaltake fan and give it more boost. i think that radiator will do fine. but any suggestions on replacing pump? or should i just sell it as soon as i get it and try with a different approach>? well lmk thanks.

ummm, why does it suck? cuz you get the same performance as a slk800 for a lot more money. good enough reason for you?

in this review, the damn thing isnt much better than a slk600

Cons from the review:

Pump moves only 1/6 the flow of other water-cooler pumps.

Cooling rates as poor when compared to other water-coolers.

Some cases may have to be modded in order to install the unit.

Price could be a bit lower.

All in all, i think most of the product thermaltake makes is sub par. the only reason i use the smart fan II is cuz i got it for $4 from a friend

hey psyco12

i'm looking at the d-tek heatercore with 120mm fan shroud. but i need a good 120mm fan still
i've been hearing good things about eheim pumps. the particular model is eheim 1250.
definately gonna use 1/2" tubing. cause i figure if your gonna get a nice expensive pump you'd be wasting your money by using 3/8" tubing.
i still have no idea about a water block for my cpu though. i've heard the name cascade brought up, but haven't checked into it.

if anyone can give suggestions or tips please do, i wanna research as much as i can before i spend the money and tear up my case.
thanks

hey leeperpsu i did some research lastnight i still would like to get a kit, cause it will be easier for me, but i want something with goood performance. i came up with this let me know what you think. http://www.swiftnets.com/products/h20-22500-0.asp#
swiftech sells it for $221.00 without the video cooler, do you want a video cooler? i fount it for $169.00 at http://shop.store.yahoo.com/directron/se.html
now i went to resellerratings.com and looked them iup, you cant be too careful with the yahoo stores. they have a rating of 8.27 not too shabby? so i think i will sell my thermaltake when i get it. and go ahead and buy this one. maybe after this first kit, i will go ahead and purchase pieces seperately. i just want to make sure i get it all done right the first time.
lmk what you think.
