Radio Shack is closing out the Thermaltake Big Typhoon Model CL-PO114.

SKU: 2801007

Orginally price: $59.99
Now: $5.97

It's a close out so his is definitely a YMMV. I suggest calling your local store to check for inventory. If they can scan the district, they may be willing to ship one from another store. Requires friendly staff.

Wow, that's a pretty hot deal. I haven't had much luck with Radio Shack and Best Buy closeouts though.

No idea Radio Shack even carried higher quality HSF like this, I know they had some generic stuff in the past. Great deal though, I still use a Big Typhoon on an old Athlon X2 and had it on a E6400 before that. Very quiet, excellent cooler on par with a Tuniq Tower and some of the better LGA 775 coolers in that range.

I think I saw this deal a while ago, so some stores may already be swept clean. I'm gonna check just in case though.

Yeah no joy here in SC either. If anyone gets one that want to send my way, drop me a PM.

I checked a couple & no go. In fact, they acted like they didn't know what a heatsink was (and sadly, I don't think they do).

I called my local store, and although they were out of stock, they said that two stores (which are over 30 minutes away in opposite directions) had them in stock. They also said it was discontinued a long time ago, which probably means it'll be hard to find (and also that shipping from store to store was not possible in my case).

That being said, some of the family will be heading down to the train station nearby one of the far stores tomorrow, so I asked them to stop by and try their luck.

Thanks to Harvey for posting this deal. I lucked out and found one at the closest store to me. I went on Sunday afternoon and they actually had two, but I only bought one. The guy at the register nearly fell over when he rung it up. He told me the original price was $35 a few months ago and then went down to $20 something and now it's $5.97. I have a feeling he grabbed the remaining one as he was drooling a little when looking at the price.

He also said there is some dude that literally clears the store out of heatsinks when there is a closeout so I was lucky to have beat him to the store (most likely an ebayer). If it wasn't the guy working the register who got it, the closeout dude probably snagged it.

Just an update, my brother stopped by the far Radio Shack on his way back from the train station, and they had two left in stock (as stated by the rep on the phone at my local store). They did indeed ring up for $5.97. I asked him to get both; I need one in the immediate future for a new build, and one for a spare since it is backward compatible all the way to Socket A .

Like Zap, I personally usually never have luck with clearance/closeouts, but if another family member goes instead, they are usually luckier than me .

Thanks once again to Harvey and the other contributors.

Thanks Harvey!

I picked up 2 at the Lakeway store in Austin, TX. They had 4. Now they have 2.

The sales associate tells me that, base on their sale profile, this is the only store in Austin that stock these components. The funny thing is, although the parts are on clearance, they continuously being re-stocked. Beside the Big Typhoon, there were Blue Orb for $14.99, bunch of old school K8 and 775 coolers for < $4, VGA water block kit for $3.99, 80mm fans, 120mm fans, fan filters, fan guards, RAM heat spreaders, 10 thumb screw for $1, etc.

When I walk into a Radioshack store I feel like a bitch in heat walking into a pound of randy dogs. It's just not worth the hassle.

I got one yesterday at a store in Union City, New Jersey. I just walked in there not expecting it to be there, but there was one left and I grabbed it. The store manager looked up to see which other stores had these, and within 15min driving distance, in "Totowa" (I think), there were 2 more. Go get it, if you need one.

Has anyone tried this with a Socket A barton system? For those that have, what kind of temps are you getting?

I used Big Typhoon on my XP-M 2400+ and 2500+ (both Barton) long time ago. One OC'd to 2.4GHz the other 2.35GHz and the temps under full load of Prime95 were about 70+C in the summer (ambient temps about 80-85F). Idle temps were always within 5C of the ambient. The Big Typhoon was king of the hill in that era and you can't go wrong with it.

Just checked at Livonia, MI store. OOS. System showed one in Clio (just north of Flint) and one in Washington Twp (26 Mile & Van *** area). Hope that helps anyone in those areas.
