Thermaltake Ducting Mod

anybody use one of these things? i remember a post on it a long while back. anyway, i was wondering if anyone has tried it and noticedc any difference in cooling or any problems? if you've not heard of it, linkage is provided

When I messed around with it, it sort of reduced noise of the Vantec Tornado that I tested it with (the reason being, the fan isn't directly on top of the fins any more, so the air is pushed through later on through the path.

But it helped ~.5C which considering the price of the unit is a half way decent difference.

did you find that the additional length that the fan was extended out added a significant weight/stress to the cpu socket when attached?

Nope. The TT Ducting mod in retail package weighs ~0.28-0.30 lbs.

Think a Panaflo would work okay with that? I'm very tempted...

Shouldn't be a problem with any fan. It is a simple 'mod' that just allows the air from a fan to flow through the entire heatsink.

If you mounted two of those to make a curve would it make contact with a 80mm fan outlet on your case? I have an Antec Performance Plus style case...

Hrmm, You know what i'll have to try that tomorrow morning if I ever get some time .

But yeah, it may be better off to get some 'heating/dryer' ducting from Home Depot or Lowes and build your own custom 'duct', considering the TT ducting mod can be found for ~7.99 (cheapest) and 2 x 8 = 16 =). The Ducting items from Lowes/HD won't be that expensive, but you'll have to be creative as far as installation and mounting =D. Oh yeah it won't look as nice hehe.

That looks like generic stuff off of a HomeDepot rack. The other thing with the Thermaltake is that if you have a windows it looks a lot more flashy.

Wow, I haven't seen an ARS review in a long time. I haven't even been checking back there because it seemed that their reviews had stopped.
