thermaltake fan questions?

is the cpu fan supposed to blow out or in? How do you know which way is which? Their are two leads coming off my thermaltake cpu fan.Their is a black and red conector and a yellow lead connector. Where does the yellow lead go? Have a abit KR7A-RAID mobo. I know the black\red lead goes in the fan1 connector. But what about the single yellow lead? and what does it do ???

Should be blowing in towards the cpu on a heatsink. But on certain zalman heatsinks they do work better sucking air away. What heatsink are you using?


The yellow lead connects to the mobo, that is to monitor the fans's rpm. You didn't get a Y power adapter with the heatsink like this one? Most that have the yellow seperate do include a Y adapter. If you have no adapter and the fan spins less than 6k then you can just plug the red and black lead to the mobo and let the yellow one alone. It won't hurt anything. Of course you can't monitor fan rpm's. But that's no biggie.

The side that the wires come out from closest is the side that blows inwards. So that side should be placed on the heatsink.

thanks for the reply blade,I do have the adapter you showed. So it connects to the yellow lead and then into the ps right?? As far as the fan direction,the wires are coming out on the lower side by the heatsink,I already installed it!! Oh,the heatsink is the thermalright A-K7.

Connect the red and black leads to that adapter, then connect that adapter to a 4-prong connector from your power supply. Then connect the yellow lead to the mobo, usually the connector closest to the cpu. Then you can use something like motherboard monitor to monitor your fan's rpms (oh boy! ), but you can also use it to monitor system temps too.
