What's wrong with ThermakTake Golden Orb? It has more air deliver than more fan that I was recommened. And lower noise.

People like to criticize the Golden Orbs cooling ability but I have overclocked two PIII 700's and two Celly 633's using a Golden Orb,an Alpha 6035 and a Fop38 and have never seen any difference in temps.

are you measuring internal diode temp? OR are you using a socket-thermistor setup? Or is your mb not equipped to read the internal diode, or combination slotket/mb?

When reading internal diode temps, I see at least 2-4C temp differences between G-Orbs and Alphas.

That being said, the GORB is fine. Its the socket-a orbs that are junk, since the clip is what made the gorb a better cooler, but the socket-a ones have a traditional clip.

How bad, relatively, is the Golden Orb for a socket A? That's what have, and am curious if I should get something else. I have an Asus A7V, and it gives me a temp of 52 (58 full load) at default voltage (T-bird 800, running at 936). When I leave the side of the case off, the lowest I can get is 47. I'm using Artic Silver II as my thermal compound.

its okay... up to 1ghz is where I would place a personal limit on its use...

I'm running an Asus CUSL2-C and also an MSI6309 which has the socket-thermistor.I've never seen a difference on either setup.

the orbs are ok for intel cpus solely because intel cpus typically use less than 30 or so watts. when you have an amd cpu that uses close to twice in most cases then you have a cooling problem. the orb's "ass" is too fat and it holds a lot of heat there. this is ok for intel because of its sheer size but look at the total surface area and it sucks more than anything out there (which is why it holds so much heat and have trouble dissapating it).

I may be mistaken, but I thought that the GORB was only for non Duron/Athlon chips. Doesn't the clip system cause possible damage to the AMD cores? Maybe there are two versions of GORB and I just haven't noticed, but I thought that they came out with other Orbs for AMD.
