Actually, if you want the best PSU (where money is no object), I'd recommend either a PC Power and Cooling PSU which is reviewed here or a Fortron model which is posted on newegg. These are effectively top of the line. They provide excellent current on the +5 and +12v rails and are rock solid. PC Power and Cooling is pretty expensive tho.

oh sorry. I have a thermaltake 480w Silent Purepower Xaser edition. It runs excellently and very stable. My only complaints is that the voltage readings are a bit high. On the +12v it reads 12.3v and on the -12 it reads -12.3 v. However, these values are well within the + or - 5% spec of current systems. Furthermore, I've been told that having a little higher voltage is a good thing. The Xaser edition also comes with 2 fan speed adjusters. One you can slip into a 5 1/4 inch bay in front or one you can slip into a pci slot in back. I used the latter because it's out of the way. It's also pretty damn cheap at ~$60. It also runs VERY quiet and cool once you adjust the fan speed to your liking. Can't go wrong with it.

Ha ha ha, nice. Yeah I have read that they run pretty damn hot. With the price for those things, i'm surprised they don't invest in some better cooling solutions. I mean it's still probably stable as hell but heat always makes me nervous. My thermaltake only gets warm even when the fans are set to medium (which produces no audible sound except for the air whoosing out).

I have the TT 480 Silent Purpower as well, I git the one with Active PFC. It's cool, it's quiet, it provides clean and stable power. I bought this one some time ago and I'm not looking for anything or have I seen anything more attractive...

I'm currently running an A64 3400+ w/Raptors in RAID0

I have a TT Silent Butterfly (Black) 480W PSU for Xaser, it's good but I have one big gripe: mine is fitted in TT Xaser III V1000A (with window) which I have equipped with 4 HD's 2 of which are SATAs running RAID. The shorter of the PSU's SATA electrical connectors does not reach the drive bay closest to the PSU, and remember this is in TT case. Does anyone else have a Xaser V1000 case with this PSU and can confirm that the connector is too short?

Just replaced my TT Butterfly 480W with a Fortran Aurora 400W, if your serious about low noise go with the Fortran, single 12cm fan & a simple working fan controller.

Yes, my Butterfly decided to override the fan controller & spin at close to full speed, & no it wasn't a heat issue, just plain irratating TT product, i've seen a few of them in my years.

Hearing it speed up & down constantly drove me nuts :frown:.

PC Power and Cooling have about the same failure rate as any other good PS... There are about 10 good brands and 40 terrible ones. The list should be about which PS units to stay away from.
