Has anyone seen the new thermaltake schooner for sale anywhere. I want a fanless gpu cooler and this looks like the best one to me.

Thanks for the help!

Actually, after digging around Tt's site (now I need a shower) I found it. First off, it's not a CPU cooler, it's a GPU cooler that has part of it sticking out the back of your system. Also, they don't say which cards it's rated to work with (just saying nVidia and ATI, AGP and PCI isn't enough). I wouldn't even think about getting it until you see at least 3 different reviews on it. Even then, wait ~6 months before getting it since there's bound to be design flaws that Tt will need to address.

Thanks for your concern. I have looked at Tt's CL-G0003 and it seems to work very well for a fanless solution. The CL-G0009 which is the schooner is supposed to be a improvement upon that design so I would assume(and yes I know what assumptions can do) that it would cool more effectively. But more importantly, have you seen it for sale anywhere?

Where did they come up with such a rediculous name as that.
I thought this thread title was a joke...

Anyway, would there be any advantage of this thing over an Arctic Cooling VGA silencer?

I have read multiple reviews on the zalman ZM80D and they say without the fan it is only as effective if not less effective as stock coolers can be. Just do a google for reviews.

What makes you THINK that thermaltake will do a better job of it?? I wouldn't trust any card that cost more than $100 (max) to the tt cooler. Especially with such a cheese-assed name... The name implies that it won't do anything unless you get a good blow behind it.

Personally, I wouldn't use a passive cooler on my 6800GT card, even if they guaranteed it to work or they'd replace the card (with either an identical model or better).

Ridiculous names aside, a fanless cooler only needs to be effective at dissipating heat. The Tt CL-G0003 is an effective cooler, and I do not care if anyone thinks Tt is crap or there are better coolers out there. I have done my own research and like their GPU cooling solutions. So if you don't like them, good for you. I want to know if anyone knows where to GET ONE.

I have no doubt that the "Schooner" does what it is supposed to do. But its effectiveness depends on airflow outside of the case, just like other heatpipe solutions like the Zalman ZM80D-HP depend on airflow within the case.

I can understand the appeal of "noiseless-fanless" solutions on top of heatpipes. But they all vary positively in effectiveness with airflow, and in order to have "more" airflow, you need some sort of fan . . . somewhere.

The Fanless 103 CPU cooler by Thermaltake was reviewed in a comparison with other coolers which employed fans. Since the Fanless 103 was "sold" as a "fanless" cooler, it was tested without a fan -- despite the fact that ThermalTake either recommended or suggested using it in conjunction with a 120mm rear exhaust fan. This, of course, would be an improvement, because you are going to have some sort of exhaust fan anyway, and the Fanless 103, in such a configuration, would eliminate a CPU fan.

For that reason, the Fanless 103 scored "badly" until you recognized that it wasn't even tested in a configuration that was recommended by the manufacturer.

I'm satisfied with my Zalman zm80D with option fan. I'm skeptical that putting the other end of the heatpipe and fins out that back of the computer is going to make the solution more effective than one with a fan. But . . . suppose it is . . . more effective. You still haven't got a choice with this design to increase effectiveness further, unless you park the back of your computer near an air-conditioning wall vent.

I appreciate your thoroughness on the subject, but what does a CPU cooler have to do with a GPU cooler. I am well aware of the 103 and its inability to provide adaquete cooling on highend machines. The CL-G0003 is a GPU cooler that has nothing in common with the 103 except that it is fanless as well. The CL-G0003 reviews very well, and about ties a zalman ZM80D-HP w/fan in cooling. As I stated early I would expect the CL-G0009 which is the "schooner" to provide a better cooling solution as it is a higher model. None of this has any relavence however to my one and only REAL QUESTION! WHERE CAN I GET ONE.

Hey bonebag, why don't you start with their LISTED (online) resellers... Instead of asking people here where to get one, look for your own self.

As for how well the schooner performs, until I read a review by at least a FEW (more than 3) reputable sites I won't give a dime for the product. Since you're not putting up links to the supposed articles/reviews where the product did well, I have serious doubts about it.

If you can't take it don't dish it. Why do you post if all you do is become a sarcastic know-it-all. Tt website only lists places that sell Tt products. None of which as far as I can tell carry the schooner. The review I mentioned can be found here-http://www.moddershq.net/revie...id=56&pagenumber=3. If you paid attention to my earlier post than you would know the review is for the CL-G0003 which is now the lower end model. I am sure you'll still come back with some lame answer like "that's only one review" blah, blah, blah. You don't have to post to my question if you don't like what I say. So deal with it!

My Radeon 9800 Pro runs fine with the TT Giant 2 ccoler...Zalman's alternative required that I buy a 92mm fan...

I looked at the Aerocool but I did not think it had enough cooling capacity for a 6600 GT OC. It says it is only good for 70W and the reviews I have read seem to think it is only as effective as a stock cooler. I was looking for something a little nicer. And a schooner is a sailboat.
