Maddow just pointed out how a good portion of the funds being cut are related to the European Deterrence Initiative/European Reassurance Initiative (EDI/ERI)--basically this is the program Obama put together to deter Russia from seizing any more foreign soil in Europe as a response to annexing Crimea. Airbase improvements in Eastern Europe and Norway, ammunition depots, training programs and other defensive improvements.

In other words, Trump is still being Putin's bitch, and he found a novel way to defund Russian deterrence.

Curiously, right after posting this we get a post from a right winger that completely derails the thread.

Yep, get Putin back in the G#, disable whatever the Western Alliance put up to punish Russia for taking Crimea and starting a war there, siding with Putin's word rather than our own intelligence agencies about the now indisputable fact that Russia interfered in our elections, being an unindicted co-conspirator concerning cover-ups, telling lies upon layers of lies to the American public at large on a daily basis to obfuscate, misdirect and divert from it all.

Way to go Trump. You've laid your cards on the table for all to see that you are pathetically compromised by Putin and his oligarchs.

Yet even with these solid bits of evidence as to your treasonous behavior, your party supports you by ~90%.

Imagine that. And these folks want to reelect him for more of the same or worse.

If ever a vote meant something more than it ever did, it's the votes in the upcoming elections that is the prime example of just that.

They should just cut the military a flat 10% across the board our border issues would be solved.

They could cut it by 25% and still we would spend more than any other country.

I think his point is that our military endeavors are the source of the border problems (our fucking with Central and South American countries governments for instance helped create the instability and other issues leading to many people fleeing those places), so by us cutting back on our military endeavors we'd inherently reduce the problems it causes. Which there's absolutely some truth to that, but its also naive in that, a lot of issues we're dealing with now, are due to things that happened decades ago. Our meddling helped foster the situations that have led to those people fleeing to move to the US. We've also seen that suddenly pulling support doesn't help, which is why we can't just go "sorry, we fucked up, bye!" as its often led to us having to address an even worse problem (i.e. pulling out of Iraq helped the rise of ISIS). And the general isolationism that I see some people pushing has historically been pretty bad as well (i.e. global issues don't stop being a problem just because we're not there, but we often end up with a worse situation to deal with, and we in particular end up weakened in non-military ways - economically for instance).

Excellent doublespeak from McConnell-

Blame the Democrats, of course, and send the pain to some other state. I wonder why he & pretty boy Ryan didn't fund Trump's wall when they had the chance...

I hope the idiots that voted for Trump that I use to work with at the Bangor Submarine Base are happy. Bye, bye new 89 Bilion submarine pier. Goodbye unbelievably well paying construction jobs. Hope the base can patch together what they have like they did with EHW #1 for 15 years before they finally built the second one.
Edit: The only reason for this is that this state, our AG, has sued the Trump admin for it's ridiculous E.O's among other things more than any other state as far as I know. This was the only thought used in making this decision.
