This, boys and girls, is why swatting is a bad idea
This, boys and girls, is why swatting is a bad idea
Murder by cop, but sure as hell doesn't excuse an execution by the swat member.
For them to already know the details of the argument it sounds like the swatter is going to FPMITAPIMO the cop and the swatter are both guilty of murder, although near 0 chance either will be convicted.
I'd certainly like to know any account of that happened during the shooting, even if it's one that's probably not trustworthy, but it doesn't look like that's happening. Hard to imagine a scenario that might warrant use of deadly force from what we know. Nearly all the other police shootings involve someone antagonizing the officer. That's no excuse. Pissing off a cop is no reason to die either. This one seems different, so I wish I had more to go on to explain it.
Livingston provided this account of what happened when Finch opened the door:
“Officers gave him several verbal commands to put his hands up and walk towards them. The male complied for a very short time and then put his hands back down to his waist. The officers continued to give him verbal commands to put his hands up, and he lowered them again.
“The male then turned towards the officers on the east side of the residence, lowered his hands to the waistband again, then suddenly pulled them back up towards those officers at the east.
“The officers on the north side of the street feared the male pulled a weapon from his waistband, retrieved a gun and was in the process of pointing it at the officers to the east. Fearing for those officers’ safety, the officer on the north side fired one round.”
More than a dozen Twitter users who claimed to be part of an online gaming community told the Eagle that the attempted swatting was the result of a feud between two Call of Duty players. The sequence of events, according to the Twitter users, began when one player threatened another with “swatting” during an argument. The intended target then provided the perpetrator with a fake address that happened to belong to Finch’s family. (Finch’s mother says that he did not play video games.)
A person whom other Twitter users accused of making the call posted a message reading, “I DIDNT GET ANYONE KILLED BECAUSE I DIDNT DISCHARGE A WEAPON AND BEING A SWAT MEMBER ISNT MY PROFESSION,” according to the Eagle. The account was later suspended.
Never call the cops unless you're sure a bunch of completely untrained, barely literate gun enthusiasts shooting everything that moves will somehow make you safer.
Believe it or not, there are actual instances when the above is true, for example during a terrorist attack or a mass shooter attack you can always use more targets to make yourself less likely to be a victim. I would call the cops if a bunch of ISIS dudes were killing everyone, otherwise I think calling them is pretty stupid. They won't help you and they very well might shoot you on accident or for fun.
Do you know what percentage of the time when people call the police, they end up being shot by them? I ask, because you'd really have to have some idea about that to be dispensing this kind of advice. It isn't enough that it's merely possible. It's possible to die every time you attempt to drive a motor vehicle or fly in a plane, but that doesn't mean we don't do it.
What do you mean. Deputy PD chief gave a timeline: http://www.kansas.com/news/local/crime/article192244734.html
Without anymore information that is an impossible scenario to judge.. Was there yelling from the apartment? Was the guy running to answer the door? Whats the area like, is it infested? How did the police announce themselves?https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...may-have-resulted-from-call-of-duty-swatting/

There's a video in the article. Dude was standing at the front door and police were behind concealment (not cover to be fair) across the street from the limited view in the video. Apparently he put his hands down and up. They could not not (double negative intended) see a gun, so they shot him.Without anymore information that is an impossible scenario to judge.. And rumors are swirling in the Call of Duty community that the death was the result of a "swatting" attack gone horribly wrong.
'horribly wrong'? isn't the intent of swatting to get someone killed
