It's not obvious, and I don't want to spoil it for others. It took me a little while to see it. If you aren't knowledgeable about handguns you will not notice it.

It's been a while since I've used a handgun, but I'm assuming that the bullets are in the magazine backwards?

Hmmm, interesting. A little off-topic, but I have been looking on getting a Sig P226. I want something with a hammer because I'm wierd; that's why I don't want a Glock. I was also looking at a Smith Wesson 5906 or the 910s....but the 910s has the magazine disconnect where you can't shoot anything (even if you have a bullet in the chamber) when the mag is out. Very wierd option IMO.

Your new gun is beautiful though......just a little too expensive for me.

I'm a Sig Sauer nut. Any reason you aren't looking into a P220. That's my favorite .45ACP manufactuered. One of the most reliable and accurate OOTB handguns. And of course, the P226 has to be good. I mean it's the SEALs official handgun.

As far as I know, no branch of the U.S. military has ever used a Sig as their "official" handgun.

Late 80s through mid 90s the SEAL teams adopted it as their "offical" handgun. It was replaced later due to it being a 9mm.

It may not be "obvious" but I caught in about two seconds & I don't even have my contacts in.

Compared to the other makers out there, Colt comes no where close in the fit/finish department. I've had enough to know to go elsewhere. Same for S&W autos. S&W makes some of the best revolvers, and Colt has some great ones as well. But the 1911s Colt puts out are just rough. Maybe the looser tolerances and rough finish are somehow desirable and I just don't get it. But paying upwards of $750 or so for basic Colt MK series pistols is crazy.

The best 1911 value right now is the new Springfield 1911s. They kind of get knocked for being made in Brazil, but no one complained when Imbel FAL receivers were being imported from Brazil...The new "old" 1911 will run just $400, basically a remake of the old 1911 style.

As far as HK...sure they make some good stuff, but IMO you pay mostly for the name. Why would I want to plunk down that much cash for a company that puts out this brochure....

I'm guessing that gun will have a major problem at some point.

Took me a couple of seconds...

Wouldn't be too quick to do that, there are plenty of politicians trying to keep it in effect. One attempt is to stick a rider on the bill protecting gun manufacturers from frivilous lawsuits, but the rider would make the AWB permanent.

If that passes with the rider attached, I'll be very pissed off.

You and many gun owners. When it comes down to it, gun owners are more active in the political system than the average American is. I'd like to see them try it. With republicans in control of congress, nothing like that should be added. Hell, even some democrats shy away from the issue.

Well, I just got back from the range. I had a great time firing some of my new toys. I shot my 8 inch Smith & Wesson model 629, my new Para-Ord LDA and a Beretta Tomcat I picked up a few weeks ago.

Actually, I hadn't fired any of these guns before (even though I've had the Smith for almost 5 months now). I've been on a bit of a gun buying spree lately.

Anyway, the Para-Ord is a very nice shooter. I had a couple problems with slide lock during the first couple magazines I shot but I think this was due to my weak wristing the gun. I found when I tightened up my hold on the gun and didn't let it flip up so much the problem never happened again. I put about 150 rounds through it today.

I only put 50 rounds through the .44 Magnum but man is that gun accurate. I easily put 4 out of 6 shots in the center ring at 15 yards and this was with the guy next to me shooting a Desert Eagle .50 AE. Everytime he touched one of those off I could feel the percussion from it in my lane. The .44 Magnum was no lightweight though, I think we both had a few people in there flinching when we were shooting.

I had a great time. What an enjoyable sport.

I just got back from the range myself. I ended up going to a place here in Tacoma that happens to be the store where the DC sniper AR-15 came from (allegedly illegally). I shot 100 rounds through my G17 and 100 rounds of .45ACP through an LDA 14.45 (nothing but problems - it kept refusing to go into battery and stovepiping, which I attribute to their lax maintenance), a USP Tactical, which I really didn't like, and a Kimber Gold Match II Stainless (rowr - what a sweet piece, though it should be for $1200).

Frame fit on this Para-Ordnance is not at all sloppy.

They also included the spent cartridge after the test fire in an envelope with the gun, dated and signed by the technician and a Q/A check list that was hand checked (all items check marked in ink). I'm not saying that counts for much but it isn't something I've seen with other guns I've purchased.

I know Smith & Wesson test fires their guns though before they leave the factory because I bought a .44 Magnum about 5 months ago and the thing was filthy with powder residue...would have been nice if they could have cleaned the gun after firing it.

As far as I know, the spent casing is for states that require one for ballistics purposes. My Kimber didn't come with one and also said not for sale in NY or Maryland.

I believe that's right. My G17 came with two, which I promptly threw away.
