Jeff Bridges in a western?

I suspect that's gonna suck donkey balls...

While not a "western" check out "Crazy Heart". He plays a washed up old country singer in there. He's a pretty versatile actor.

The only remake/redo I ever liked was Carpenter's The Thing.

I like both versions just about equally.

Just one more example of how creativity is absolutely dead in Hollywood. They see more profitability in totally butchering and repackaging a decades old classic movie than actually trying to create something fresh and new.

I haven't been to a movie theater in years, and I wont be going anytime soon. It's gotten so bad that they will trot out sequels to anything that had a pulse, including mediocre and downright worthless movies.

I guess as long as people pay to go see the garbage they put out, they will keep putting out garbage.

I generally don't like remakes either. Especially of classics that still can hold up on their own.

THIS however.... wow. It looks DAMNED good. Cannot wait.

Normally I wouldn't give this movie a second thought. But it IS being done by the Coen brothers. Fargo, O Brother where art Thou? were very enjoyable to me.

This looks spectacular. I had no idea it was a remake, since I've never seen the original and never will.

i really dislike when they remake movies. Aren't the writers smart enough to develop their own story lines.

For all of the other brainiacs in this thread who made similar comments... the original movie was based on a book, and this movie is based on the same book...

If anyone can pull this off, it's the Coens and Jeff Bridges. This has a fairly good chance of not sucking at all.

The key to enjoying any sequel, adaptation or remake is to completely disassociate it from the previous similar work. Comparing a movie to one you already love is a recipe for disappointment, so just enjoy them both for what they are.

Edit: True Bond fans should understand this. Then again, it's fun to debate the differences and champion your favorite Bond.

This is not a remake in strict terms, this is a newer, more faithful adaptation of a classic novel. I can understand railing against bleh hollywood trash remakes, but this is not that at all. With all respect to the Duke, the standards of movie making at the time didn't allow for a lot of darkness and violence in a mass market film.

To put it with emphasis : Coen Brothers (always impressive, even if I'm not a fan of all of their films) + Jeff Bridges (getting better every year!) + classic western novel = win.

RT = 100% so far, with 11 reviews.

Bad remakes = Rollerball (lol), Aflie, Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Clash of the Titans, Wicker Man, The Day the Earth Stood Still,

Good remakes = The Departed, 3:10 to Yuma, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, '78 Body Snatches (will probably always remain the best of these), A Fistful of Dollars, The Magnificent Seven, Cape Fear, The Thing, True Grit (trust me).

Any film version of True Grit without Glen Campbell has to be a major improvement.
