I think its because you are not benchmarking the same area's in the game.

your numbers are fraps based and theirs from the benchmark?

Yeah when I ran the in game benchmark it is 50fps , it drops to the 50s during the cut scenes but gameplay is much higher

That still does not explain why a R9 290x is less than this with the same CPU. It really should be higher

CPU is not overclocked and it's a AS Rock 990fx motherboard (forget what model and revision)

8GB normal DDR3 1600 memory , game installed on an HDD , rather than SSD

14.1 drivers also

Maybe the difference is somewhere else in the system.

We should compile the specs of both machines and review them if someone has time.

Appreciate you running the benches, AtenRa. Vishera doesn't look too bad to me.

Do you have a Kill-a-Watt or some other power measuring device? I'm sure the FX rig will use more power than the Ivy rig. But when comparing total system power to total system power, my guess is the difference isn't really that large.

When ill get time ill measure power consumption too. I will also add more CPUs and update the graphs.

AtenRa, are you being held back by the CPU? The 3770K is a good bit faster than the 920, the scant 12% you measured doesn't seem to agree with this.

Agreed socket 1366 has been the longest lasting system for me in all my builds.

I bought an AM2+ motherboard that saw three different Ph/PhII CPU's in it's life time. I got five and a half years out of that system ending with a hexcore. Something tells me the AM3+ upgrade path is going to look a little pale in comparison. :'(

You got vishera @ 5Ghz, I don't think you have to worry about CPU upgrades for a while. Plus with DX12 and Mantle CPU will become ever less important so even people with slower quads will be able to see benefits of new GPU programing models.

That 7950 is holding you back at maximum settings. You need a 290X like Techspot or a 780 Ti to let the CPUs breathe.

All of a sudden the impressive performance shown by the FX in the OP doesn't matter, what matters is the test showing FX doing poorly.
I game with both my PC's (sig) and while my 4770 is a monster, the FX is no slouch either, it puts great numbers and there's not one single game that i cannot run on it.
Benches are a great indication of performance but ultimately it is the user experience that will dictate how good a piece of hardware really is.
Many here never saw an FX in action and that tells a lot, wow.

That would allow the 3770 to run away, i agree
At the same time would not make the FX run slower, it too would see some increases for sure

I tried the built in benchmark on my systems and I was surprised to see that my 570 SLI scored around the same as 7950 Ghz. Usually 570 SLI is quite a bit faster.

I was surprised to see rig2 to run the game admirably, while rig 3 tanked. It was constantly loading from the HDD. They both have 4Gbs which is strange.

Could the extra 280MB of video ram of the 570s, make that huge of a difference in terms of resources storage, so rig2 does not have to load from the hdd?

The following series of pictures taken while the Benchmark was running will help you understand what is happening with the CPU and GPU.
On the left corner you can see the Minimum, Average and Current FPS. On the right the CPU/GPU utilization and Memory usage.
The first image is always with High Settings and the second with Max settings.

Enjoy

Thanks. Nice Job.

Looks like High is CPU bound while Maximum is completely GPU bound.

Thanks for running these benches AtenRa. Crazy how the overclocked 5800k catches up with the 8150 being half the number of modules in a decently threaded game. Piledriver really stepped it up

you can't discount the L3 cache when comparing the 5800K to the 8350 for gaming, so I'm not sure it's all that "decently threaded" (difference is not only coming from the different number of modules), but yes, clearly Piledriver improved Bulldozer by a good margin.

Not talking about the 8350, talking about the 8150

I know, but I assumed you think the game is "decently threaded" because of the difference between the 8350 and 5800K, but as I said, you also need to consider the l3 cache.
