I am currently thinking about building my first thin mini itx build. I have done a mini itx but I really like the idea of the thin mini motherboards. After a bit of research I have found that it may be possible to run the small computer off of a portable power bank. Has any one else done this before? If so can you let me know what you got for a motherboard and a power bank?

Link for the computer on PCpartpicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ngsFHN

I have selected two possible powe banks. Any help would be really great thank you.

I would probably go even smaller than thin mini-ITX. There exist Chinese-made mini-PCs, that have a micro-B USB 5V plug as a power input. They show them running off of a power bank.

Check out BangGood, GeekBuying, and GearBest, to name a few.

Thank you I am going to look into that.

Look for a "Windows TV Box / mini-PC". Something with a Bay Trail or Cherry Trail Atom, and Win10, with a micro-B USB power input.

I would like to use the computer for League of legends and things like word and excel. Nothing crazy that is for sure. I dont need it to play Crisis 3 at 4k. Though a little GPU power would be great that is for sure. Looking at less than 800$ pref around 500. Really i just want to know what is out there and what my options are. I would love to build the computer but that seems like it will not be possible.

This does not look to bad. I thnk the 620 will be fine for league and the i5 is not bad too for things like browsing the net and word processing.

That's a bit more beefy than I was suggesting; that one takes a 12V barrel plug, not a 5V micro-B USB suitable for being powered by a power bank.

Really, though, why aren't you considering a laptop?

I was un-aware that the Intel Skull Canyon NUC could be powered off of a 12W max output (5V 2.4A) "power bank". I thought that PC had a 45W TDP.

Who said anything about 5v 2.4a besides you? The unit OP used in his link will do 20v/3a (60w). That's pretty close to the 19.5v/3.3a my i7 Dell laptop uses.

Yeah there are some power banks that can charge a laptop though. So 19v at around 4.5 amps. That would be plenty for this computer that runs of a 12v and well i cant remember the amps but im sure its under 4.5. Also i dont know why i dont want to buy a laptop and i might still do that but i want to explore
all my options. Also i started out wanting to build a computer so that is probably why i am looking at mini PC's instead of laptops right now. I really liked your first sugestion with the mini computers and im looking heavily into that.

Thank you guys for all the info. New to mini computers and really just want to know what is out there in that range. They also make these really cool 16 in 1080p usb3.0 powered monitors that would go great with a mini computer and a power bank set up. Though i know im probably being crazy looking into all of this haha. Interesting how far tech has come over the past 10 years though i will say that. excited to see what comes in another 10 years or will moors law fuck us haha.
