My avermedia capture card and graphics card are so close together they are touching. I always just hoped it would never be a problem but I was just playing my ps3(which goes through the capture card) and I lost sound on the ps3 with some crackle. Then my screen on my computer went black it came back after a few seconds and it said the nvidia driver crashed. Then both monitors starting flickering and my computer froze up. I tried to reboot but it would just start up for a few seconds then restart. Finally after 15 minutes of trying different dvi ports i got the computer to start back up.

I honestly have no idea what caused that. I thought w/e it was just broke my entire pc Anyone have any idea what this sounds like? Also i would like to put something non-conductive between the two cards but its gotta super thin.

This might sound ghetto, but have you considered electrical tape? Non-conductivity is its job after all

Polyethylene or polypropylene would do. Easiest way to get a sheet of this is to buy a plastic report cover from a stationary store. The ones with colored covers that have metal tongues in them so you can fasten 3-ring binder papers inside. Just cut the plastic sheet piece you need from one of the covers.

OK here is an update. The two cards aren't touch. They have an inch or two between them. The metal clip from the cpu fan that clips to the heatsink is touching the capture card though.

Try a piece of tape on that clip to prevent metal contact with capture card.

Is it possible to move the capture card to a different slot?

Sounds like the capture card is in "top" PCI-E (x1 ?) slot above the usual x16 graphics slot. Maybe you don't have options to relocate it to another slot, or that would be a possibility. I "came close" to your problem: I've got a Hauppauge HVR-2250 tuner-capture card in that slot, and it's within an 1/8" of the NH-D14 fins, but not touching. It's also a low-profile card.

I generally avoid using regular electrical tape because its adhesive is messy, it doesn't adhere well enough. I try and use automotive "self-adhesive" rubber hose bandage instead. If you stretch it while wrapping it, the adhesion is so good you have to cut it to remove it, and it doesn't have a gooey adhesive that transfers to the fingers.

Another thing you can do is to coat the metal parts of your fan-clip with (Automotive!) silicone adhesive-sealant.
