Well heres hoping that BD 4 module can beat SB1155. It matters not to me as I will buy IB. After it comes out . Toreplace SB . But I so want AMD to raise there pricies back to pre 2006 . I just need a good laugh. As for the value of this topic . LOL a hugh reach by the OP and a failure.

yeah amd is in a horrible position from the perspective of a PC enthusiast, probably not to much from any other view

hexcore is getting handled by SB quad core.

BD is like 6 months away and we have no idea to its performance. It could be insane, it could not be insane.

I want to upgrade very much, but I don't see a compelling reason to take AMD at the moment. The new SB line seems to be the way to go for someone looking to spend 150-200 on a processor.

What does AMD do? a few hundred mhz in speed bumps means nothing at this point. Drop prices even further?

wow people sure get all excited when some benchmarks come out.
I agree intels new chip is strong but I am with bigystyle who cares at this point?

Amd will just lower their pricing again and the faster x6s will still be a very viable option once they get down to 200 dollars or under. Comparing the entry price for the sandy bridge cpus with what the pricing is on a x6 or any other amd cpu right now is stupid...considering you can't even buy the intel part.

There are ALOT of minuses right now for going with the intel platforms, and just comparing cpu cost is ignorant. As usual intel has the higher cost motherboards, for no more features alot of times less. I guess if all you do is benchmark then jump for the sandybridge right now. Let's look at what a typical p67 motherboard has.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3649#sp

hmmm no ability to use the cpu graphics (like all p67s) no dual x16 pcie slots memory has gone back to dual mode instead of triple (a huge factor in the past that intel fanboys bragged about) and now we start to get to the biggies....NO firewire, NO esata woot what a enthusiast board this looks like. I hope everyone has their usb mittens and hello kitty fans and phone chargers because that is about all this thing is good for. This would not be so bad if this were not a near 180 dollar motherboard...At any rate there is still plenty of place for amd and as for me I had much rather have a amd board and spend my extra money on a nicer video or ssd drive.

Lies, you still have to spend $1000. If not, tell me where to buy this $317 CPU that can match i7-990x TODAY. You're a moderator, so I think your statements should be more precise.

I think your statements should be at least somewhat precise......there is no i7-990x cpu, unless you've been remarking them.

As for the SB matching an i7-980x, did you even bother to read the review? 7 out of 9 games tested gave a higher frame rate on the SB than the i7-980x. The rest of the benchmarks were split at around 50/50.

And you're comparing Intel's top end Socket 1366 cpu with a midrange SB cpu, which is really a testament to Intel's new cpu. If it only came even close to the 980x cpu's performance would have been great....the fact this midrange cpu, an i7 2600K, can beat the 980x in around half of the benches is just amazing.......hate to see what'll happen when the true high end SB's come to market. Sucks to be AMD right now...at least on the cpu side of things.

1. P67 replaces P55 and P55 was always Dual Channel
2. The IGP is useless for 99% of us
3. UD3 is 126 dollars, UD3P is 156

1. Ok, may have been always dual channel on the p55, but how is it a advancement to go with a dual channel memory setup for their new chip lineup that's all I'm saying? it is just funny to me how I have heard plenty say that amd boards sucked because they didn't have triple channel memory and now it's not a issue anymore. I guess alot of stores are going to be stuck with triple stick memory kits aren't they

2. The igp may be useless, but you are still paying for it and it is touted as being one of the big new features isn't it. I wouldn't call it useless anyway in my opinion it would be pretty nice to be able to switch off the main graphics card, and use it just like people do on the newest netbooks and laptops etc. Not only would it save a ton of power, and create less heat, but it would allow people to actually use the features such as the video transcoding etc. Fact is the boards out now won't do that will they, so what is the point in jumping onboard at this point.

3. Ok fair enough you found a better price than I did (I was using amazon>) However once you add in 10 bucks of shipping, it still becomes 170 dollars (shows 159 in basket) and it also is not in stock and says it will take up to 4 weeks So with a 2500k cpu IF noone price gouges at all we are still looking at 400 bucks for a mb/cpu combo..pretty lame for a board that has nothing more to offer for rear outputs than usb there is no way that can be considering a "enthusiast" level board. My six year old business precision dell c2d laptop that I use at work has firewire so I guess it is more of a enthusiast rig...

So, faster cpu + lower power (cooler) + AVX + full lane PCIe + SATA6 + USB3 + better IPC is not worth $400? It sure is for me. And I can sell my i5 750 and MB for about 150-200. So for $200 I get everything listed above.

Who really cares that it does not have firewire? Really? What next, complain about not having a parallel port? USB3 will be the new standard.

To CLARIFY a few things, sorry for the typo. But this does not change the fact that you can not buy a SB today or tomorrow or yesterday. I did read benchmarks, and I am surprised by the performance of the lineup up to $200. The problem is people keep saying that as soon as BD arrives, it will be slaughtered by S2011. The same can be said right now about i7 2600k getting slaughtered when BD arrives. S2011 MAY BE AM3+ competition, but it is scheduled/rumored to be 2Q later, and BD is only 1Q-almost 2Q later than S 1155. So the unfair speculation and twisting of timelines is just getting old. And as far as what fanboys or sites hype, unless it lists official PR note from Intel or AMD, its FUD.

1. I agree
2. I'm fine with this assumption for enthusiasts, but as for review sites they need to be especially clear about QuickSync not working with a discreet card present.
3. I won't even harp on the 8x/8x because that's a moot point for 99.9% of people. But really, you cannot deny that an equivalently equipped, same brand, same quality board with Intel chipset will cost $20 more.

Agreed, the firewire may be the lesser issue, but are you going to say esata is unimportant too? If all these features are not important why are we not all just buying some office spec dell or compaq.. No matter what, a motherboard that is on the north side of 150 dollars should have more than this one that's all. I guess it was more of a slam on gigabyte than it was sandy bridge after all I have seen the asus p67 boards also and even the lower end ones have esata and firewire so there you go.

You need to watch your wording. I think everyone here knows that he means "On or after Jan 9th".

I've heard about a joint venture between Intel and AMD; a new company called "Dintelam" that is developing an x86-64 monolithic dodecacore CPU that runs at 10GHz, has a 45w TDP, 8 trillion transistors, will hit the street with a price of $50, and has an onboard GPU the equivalent of 8 Radeon HD 6970s. Motherboards for this CPU/GPU will be available from all the major players, with an expected MSRP of $80.

eSata would have been nice for the Gigabyte MD I just ordered. But I am not going to give negative opinions of an entire platform over missing eSata. Especially since my case (and most cases) support eSata by using an internal Sata connection wired to the front (or back). Firewire is a non issue for me.

Nonsense. Maybe for you it's useless, but I'm sure a lot of people, enthusiasts included, would enjoy having Quick Sync (aka the IGP). Incredibly stupid move by Intel with how they handled it.

The AMD CPUs are good, the Intel ones are too good. I hope AMD doesn't aim for the "performance crown" but spits some $100 fast quads that are good in gaming and as slow as the current ones in Cinebench, WinRAR, DivX and whatnot. Even slower, I don't care. And a $100 mobo to go please.

I think people underestimate Llano, they think the GPU is only for gaming.

AMD Fusion APU Era Begins

a list of companies to create software for AMDs Fusion APUs

• Adobe
• ArcSoft
• Codemasters
• Corel
• CyberLink
• DivX
• EA / BioWare
• Firaxis
• Gazillion
• Microsoft
• Nuvixa
• Earthsim
• Roxio
• Sega
• Turbine
• Viewdle
• ViVu

As you perfectly point out, Software must be changed to use it. Only the biggest companies can afford that (especially optimizing for only one brand of CPU's). Your list confirms this pretty nicely.
Look at simple multi-thrading on normal cpu's. It' sjust still very rare. Games maybe and some special apps but probably 90% of applications (pure guess) are single threaded and might not even profit from mulit-threading not to mention from GPU.
I think AMD hyped their APU while intel actually delivered before them but then I can be proven wrong. We will see.
i also think some fixed-hardware would be better for general tasks see what happend with decoding and now intel with transcoding. most is done outside of the actually graphics processing cores.
Maybe Civ 5 could profit from them but then it's not that important to have a great gpu with it (eg low framrates don't matter that much).

It is kind of a crappy move by Intel, but savvy at the same time. It makes the IGP very important to a casual user, and it would mean they could lose some functions by "upgrading" to a discrete card. Sneaky.

Well, all I'll say is it good for AMD that they still have some fanboys left after the beating they've taken since Core 2 got up to speed. I really do hope that BD gives Intel a run for it's money - it would be good to have a competitive AMD again.

Things aren't good at all for AMD. They cant count on the Intel settlement cash-cow for very long.

If BD isn't a success....watch for a possible buyout.

You do understand its not Intels place to make QSYN. work on NV or ATI cards don't ya . Its up to NV /AMD to provide drivers for quick syn. NV will come befor AMD does with drivers.
