Everyone has to start somewhere. If you aren't in good enough shape to do more than that, you can't. If that 150 calories you burned in that little walk-n-talk puts you in a slight caloric deficit, or prevents you from being in a caloric surpless, all the better.

This is my single biggest pet peeve. Usually it's a team of guys who go. They load up one bar with a good amount of weight, do one rep, then stare at themselves in the mirror, flex, walk around, talk, then the next guy does his one rep and they repeat the procedure.

Flexing and staring in the mirror aside, some people do low-rep/max training, and when you do that, you rest a lot in between. You'd hate my gym if this bothers you...granted it has no mirrors, people will do one rep, and sit around for upwards of 10 minutes before doing another.

Very disturbing.
Actually, 100% agree. THAT is the worst. I've seen old guys trim their nails next to me, dust their old man sack with a ton of talc, they just don't give a sh*t anymore.

Seriously! This ain't yer grampa's YMCA!

My favorite was these 3 kids at the gym on Monday night. They were in the aerobics room with boxing gloves on. I walked by and noticed that one of them was laying down, but I continued into the locker room thinking he was fine. His friend came in a minute later and ran a towel under water. I asked about the guy on the ground and he said that he had been knocked out. Not just a flash knockout. His eyes rolled up and his tongue folded back. This kid was KTFO. Of course they had it on video (iPhone, what isn't it good for?!). He got hit with a WILD overhand right (the kid who threw it, punched like Bob Sapp) in the left temple. His head hit the floor and he was out for almost a minute. He had dizziness and short-term memory loss. I told his friends to call his parents and make sure that he saw a doctor that night.

It cracked me up, but I felt bad for him. It was his 2nd concussion (one from football) and he likely got two for the price of one that night. He should find a nice non-contact sport like knitting.

naked old guys in the locker room blow drying their balls with the built-in hairdryers

People who?s range of motion on the squat totals about 5? top to bottom. There?s a foreign guy who does this @ my gym, and it just mystifies me. I?ve seen him spend nearly the entire duration of my workout (~45-mins) in the squat rack doing massive amounts of weight for his age/physique, with a form that boggles the mind. His ass drops maybe 5? at most, then he bends forward at the waist. One of these days he?s going to kill himself.

Or think they are elite, you know the type, those who got themselves a SS book 6 months ago and now think they are the shit.

My cardio is currently walking 30 minutes after I lift. I don't know the speed, it's enough to get my heart rate to about 135. I thought anyway that was aite.

just sayin.....if it annoys you so much speak up, what would it hurt?

And yes I do realize there are some dumb asses who won't listen to you to save their life, but also realize there are a lot of people in the gym that just
never got the proper instructions on how to use the equipment and do want the guidance but may just be embarrassed to ask

Ups and downs on this one. The other day someone handed me a neck pad for squatting that he was done with, which I kindly declined. He looked at me like I was a dumbass. I let it slide.

Then I saw someone wrecking their knee out on a calf raise machine, and I noted he could hurt himself that way and he hated me for mentioning it.

I do wish when flat benching or squatting if someone saw a real problem, they'd tell me. I'm a sponge in that way.

Sorry, I should have clarified, what I meant was 5'10 130lbs 18-21 year old males who do not even have a chest or biceps, who walk in and spend an hour doing flat/incline/decline 12 rep sets with no weight on the bar and never squat/deadlift/eat enough, yet still talk about bodybuilding. Even though I'm not interested in bodybuilding myself, I have respect for those who put in the training it takes to be competitive, it's just annoying hearing people who aren't bodybuilders talk as if they are.

I generally don't much care what other people in the gym are doing, so long as it doesn't infringe on my workout. If someone is, for example, using a squat rack for bicep curls, I don't immediately get upset, but I do ask how many sets they have left. It can be mildly annoying if they then reply with, "errr, I dunno, maybe 10?" But I try to remain civil.

Improper form is sometimes painful to watch, but I tend to mind my own business unless the person is in imminent danger of self-injury.

However, it is annoying to have to listen to the guys who do a single rep of 350lbs on flat bench (only after bouncing it off their chest and having two friends spot them, mind you) walk around and talk about how badass they are.

Really? If there is somebody in the power rack doing curls, I ask them if they're ACTUALLY using the power rack. I usually get a confused look and then say "I'd like to do squats in the squat rack." They tend to move. I'm not a jerk about it, just frank that I need to use equipment that they're needlessly taking up.

Eh, I figure they most likely just didn't think about it, or didn't think anyone was going to use it. Sure, they might've gone in full well knowing they were needlessly hogging the rack, but as far as I'm concerned, anyone who pays membership to a gym has equal rights to all equipment.

Does that mean it's ok to sit around and hog a bench while talking on your cell phone for 20 minutes when the place is packed? Not at all, but I try not to get upset about these things.

Way to ignore half the post.

I also hate how some people smell REALLY terrible. They smell like they have been bathing in underarm sweat that's been recycled over 10 times! That's disgusting! I also hate how people don't unrack their weights after use. I'm not talking about a single 45 on each side, but a 45, a 35, a 25, 2 10's, and a 5 on each side. That shit just annoys me.

I focus on myself in the gym, not on what other people are doing.

The kid doing bicep curls in the squat rack will be done in a few minutes.

If someone leaves 8 plates on the leg press, no problem. I'm there to workout. Moving a few 45 lbs. plates a couple of feet is just another exercise.

This is probably the only thing people do in gyms that consistently annoys me. Most gyms I've attended had pretty strict rules that everyone obeyed though. None of the other stuff really bothers me.

Who the fuck cares what they do between reps? My point is that its a very legitimate form of training, and you are incorrect if you think otherwise - and if you get that upset about someone looking in the mirror in a room that's covered in mirrors....uh, you're in the wrong place.

Which is fine  I'm on about the people who only do the 30 mins walk and then leave, usually women.

Not a fan of the women huh Trebeck?

What use to crack me up at the previous gym I belonged to is when there'd be a good looking gal with a nice rack on a cardio machine all the older guys use to get in a group and ogle her. It got so bad that they moved the cardio equipment in different places so the "View' wouldn't be so bouncy. They were never able to achieve that ..which is good:laugh:

It annoys me when people are grunting loudly and yelling while lifting weights.

When people don't follow proper etiquette in choosing a cardio machine, and choose one next to me when they could have taken one where neither one of us would have had to be right next to someone. A minor annoyance but it's the little things that count.

Not racking their weights is another one.

For the most part I don't care what people do as long as it doesn't affect me. They can wear whatever stupid gear they want, work out as improperly as they want, rock out to their music, etc. Sometimes I see weird behavior and I laugh and think to myself "What's this guy thinking?" but it doesn't bother me.

Something funny I saw was this girl working out on the precore. Twice while she was on the machine, she turned her entire torso to the side to look in the mirror, and lifted her shirt to check out her own stomach. Don't people realize that other people can see them when they are in public? She wasn't that hot.

To answer the topic at hand - what the average person does in the gym, I don't care. Their routines don't bother me, what they look at in the mirror doesn't bother me, what they wear doesn't bother me. The things that annoy me things that are just rude and inconvenience others - not racking weights, not wiping down sweaty cardio equipment, things like that.

Nothing 'cracks me up' though. I do not consider myself to be that superior that I look down my nose and laugh at others in the gym.
