Burger King has 10-piece chicken nuggets for $1.49 and a 20-piece for $2.99. You would save $0.01 just by ordering two 10-pieces.

Just think of the millions of people out there who are being ripped off by 1 cent. Who will speak for them?

Target has single rolls of Viva paper towels for $1.49 and two for something like $2.79, but the rolls are actually smaller, so you end up paying more.

You know what grinds my gears?

Gas has that 9/10 of a cent thing on the end. Why not just up it 1/10 of a cent and give that money to schools or NASA or cancer research or something?

Big box stores that price larger containers at a higher price per unit than the smaller packages of the same product.
Grocery stores who use pricing algorithms in the liquor dept. I've seen beer vary by a dollar a twelve pack up and down three times in one week.

I quit fast food chicken nuggets cold turkey for a few years after seeing this.

Damn Wendy's 4 for $4 with spicy chicken nuggets lured me back to the dark side.

If you think that's bad you should look at their buy one get one croissan'wich coupon. The cost of one is like $3.19 while BK itself has a 2 for $3 deal that doesn't require a coupon. If you want two of those things you'll save more money not using the coupon. :hmm:

Funny thing is that's probably by design, there is probably some bean counter that figured out that if they overcharge by a penny people won't notice but at the end of the day that equals to millions of extra dollars as it adds up. Kinda like that thing in Office Space where they were storing fractions of pennies in a bank account and it added up to a lot.

Medium rare.
I'd say medium rare for chicken is by far the tastiest level of doneness. Of course, there is a risk of disease, but I tend to buy the air-cooled instead of fecal-soup-cooled chicken so it is lessened a bit.

"Millions of extra dollars?"

Not from the nuggets alone.

I takes one hundred 20-piece orders to get that extra dollar so it will take TWO HUNDRED MILLION 20-piece sales to get the minimum to be "millions" (two million). Granted, there are some economies of scale savings, but it's safe to say that Burger King does not sell that many 20ct orders of their nasty nuggets, especially when some people DO notice and order the smaller counts.

The Wendy's here does the same thing though: charges a penny more and gives you less sauce when you order a larger size (two smaller orders equals two sauce choices).

The point seems to be the same old tried-and-true tactic to always stay under the next dollar threshold. They do this to avoid the mental deterrent that having a higher dollar number brings while treading as close to that line as possible. They do this with almost everything (not just nuggets).
