Things that still suck about Windows 7

1. When files are locked it doesn't tell what app has locked it or how to unlock it.

2. No save with auto-renaming in IE or FF.

3. Still hard to transfer settings to a new PC.

4. File operations still suck - no resume feature, no discernible order in which files are copied, moved, etc., no (ie. you could start a large file transfer that will take a few hours, supervise it for the first half hour, go take a nap, and come back to a "Do you want to overwrite?" window that's been sitting there for the last two hours.) --fuzzybabybunny

please list your minor complaints about Windows.

it isn't hard to transfer settings to a new PC if you use the USMT properly...

Yes, always been an annoyance of mine as well, really like unlocker for this.

2. No save with renaming in IE or FF.
Not sure what you're talking about, but no problems renaming files before downloading with IE here.

Really? Have you tried 7's Easy Transfer? Not only is it easy, IMO, the level of granularity it brings (as well as reporting) is a huge improvement.

First, the reset of us can rename files just fine. Second, how is this remotely a OS issue?

I still keep getting fooled into sending $50,000 to Nigerian Princes. Microsoft NEEDS to fix that in the next version of Windows.

The save dialog box belongs to Windows. It would be nice if it would automatically rename files that have the same name.

What the hell? I wouldn't want that at all. What if I want to overwrite the file?

Firefox + DownThemAll (formerly DownloadThemAll). What you want is a download manager, not a new OS.

FF does do this. Dunno about IE dont use it.

LIke i downloaded dropbox and then didnt see it download so clicked it again and it renamed the second one to dropbox(2)

Im also liking windows 7, though i can't feel a performance difference from vista.
Though i can look at my system monitor and see that less ram is being used...

I can't figure out how to send feedback in the latest RC release.

Wait... are you wanting Aero compatible drivers for that GPU?

Ideally, yes, seeing as it can run Compiz effects nicely under Linux.

At the very least I would like something to let me run my LCD at its native resolution instead of 800x600.

I guess I could also note that my laptop's wifi, ethernet, and several other drivers were not available for Windows 7.

MS is missing out on a huge market if they don't support the millions of laptops that were sold with Vista.

It's a huge jump from saying your chipset isn't supported (remember, on Vista the 855 used the XP drivers as Intel never updated them) to saying that W7 doesn't support ANY laptop that was sold with Vista.

This is not an OS issue, this is a programming issue. Here you go.

That doesn't even make sense. They should have a checkbox for auto-renaming if the file exist.

The programmer is more than welcome to subclass SaveFileDialog.

That MS has a wonderful product in WHS but yet will not integrate it more in depth into an OS. What I am talking about it is that I shouldn't have a personal folder on my local drive that contains music, pictures etc. It should directly link up to the SERVER automatically.

I know this isn't really a Windows 7 problem but it seems HomeGroup and Libraries are going to replicate WHS shared folders

HomeGroups, yes, to an extent, but your library can contain folders on WHS. That's how I have mine setup now. It's really nice...my folders on WHS are all indexed and easily reachable in save/open dialogs. One of the best features in 7, IMO.

What you're describing is exactly what libraries are

That's an intel ... not a MS issue.

The fact remains that there are millions of centrino-based laptops out there without proper graphics drivers. It would be in MS's best interest to have drivers for them so they can upgrade to Windows 7.

It is NOT up to Microsoft to create drivers for hardware, hardware vendors have to do that. Don't be quick to hop on MS hate train, this is Intel at fault here.

This is true, it's not Microsoft's problem. That's ok though, Intel appears to have dropped the ball with Linux as well.

Sadly, people still buy computers with Intel graphics, so maybe Intel is just punishing them.
