Things that suck about dorms....

Well, I lived in the dorms and there are advantages...

1. Close to everything on campus.
2. Campus ethernet. Nuff said.
3. Cheaper than living off campus (unless you eat ramen everyday and live in a total slum place)
4. Less housing headaches. Off campus housing managers really are slow at fixing problems with their houses. At least in the area where I went to college. At least the campus housing repair people fixed my problems same day. My friend with the toliet bolted onto the rotting bathroom floor wasn't fixed until he moved out.

<< When we were in the dorms, my roomate (now) cranked "The Right Stuff" by New Kids on the Block, stole the R.A. keys, locked his door and left for the weekend. I lived in the next dorm and could hear it across the big lawn between them. It was pretty damn funny......to the people in my dorm. >>

I can just imagine what the room looked like when he arrived back after his weekend away. I know what it would've looked like if I lived next door.

That's strange. At my school, it's like $2100 per quarter (about 3 months) for room and board, while I pay about $1700 off campus for an aparment that is much larger and nicer than any dorm room.

Unfortunately, I wasn't lucky enough to be on a co-ed floor ( we don't even have enough girls here for many co-ed floors). If I had I may have enjoyed my freshman year more.

That, and upperclassmen (higher than 1st year) are not allowed to live in the dorms, unless they are RAs.

yeah, that seems to be the definition of off-campus student ghetto housing. Holy sh!t does my place suck. But then...no RA (RAs at my school b!ow goats)

can just imagine what the room looked like when he arrived back after his weekend away. I know what it would've looked like if I lived next door.
they eventually got a janitor with a skeleton key (which wasn't easy since it was the weekend) to open the room and turn it off. Whereby everyone took their trash, and the trash already in the bins and left it in his room until he came back (after shutting the windows and door to the un-airconditioned dorm room in the 2nd, blazing hot, week of September). That also was damn funny to the people in my dorms. (wasn't so funny to his roomate at the time )

I used to blast MetallicA with my door open all the time. Never had any complaints. Of course there was this guy who was in an asian fraternity (he was white)... so he couldn't have liked MetallicA much... haha sucker. I'm asian too and I hate what those frat boys listen to and play at their parties. MetallicA rules.

Heh, this actually happens on my floor. My floor is divided into guys on one side, girls on the other. I had a girl wearing only a towel hang out in my room for 2 hours because her roomate left and locked the door, and the girl didn't have any keys. It was really funny, man I love college

Other than that, dorms are ok. Fast internet access is a big plus. But I'm still only going to spend one more semester here and that's mostly cause this one girl (different girl) will be living on my floor again next year. But without Co-Ed floors I would have left the dorms by now.

Yes they are!

Personally, I love the dorms (mine's co-ed!)- plan on staying here until graduation because I got a really nice room on the 4th (top) floor overlooking the scenic campus, and I have a big hotel-sized room with a cool roommate.

Yeah, that's what I said. She said she wasn't able to find the RA on our floor, and she didn't want to go looking all over the building in a towel for another RA. I offered to go look, but we got to talking and stuff and I then her roomate was back.

Edit: Ok, maybe it wasn't quite 2 hours, but it was a while.

Maybe in California, but at large public schools in the midwest, co-ed dorms? not at my school at least. When I lived in the dorms, they were large concrete cinder block buildings. No A/C... typical jaillike setting overlooking a courtyard. Course it's not such a bad view when an attractive young female coming back from the shower doesn't close her windows and blinds... not that I was intentionally looking or anything...

Resident Assistant. They basically make sure your floor doesn't kill each other, do illegal things, etc.

Residential Advisor.

They do the above, plus they get free room/board for doing it... and have to set-up community events to earn their keep at the same time. Some RAs actually did stuff but some were NEVER around. They obviously automatically get singles. Cute girls get to knock on their doors if they're a hottie guy... every guy on the floor knocks on their door if it's a hottie chick.

Get it? Nice idea.

My best friend had two homer-sexuals in the next room that tended to get "intimate" right next to where his desk was. BBBLLLLLLEEEEECCCHHHHHH!!!!!! He spent many a night in my room to get away from that crap. MAN that was nasty. :disgust:

I have a friend that has a cement ceiling in his dorm. If the person gets too loud above him, he gets out a 2x4 and bangs it hard against the ceiling until they turn it down

try being the roommate of the guy that has his bass thumping 18 hrs a day. god the guy had no respect... it would be 3am and he would still be bumping his sub... it was the most ghetto setup I've seen- it was a regular bookshelf speaker, except the woofer was replaced by some 10" car sub. not to stir up anything but he was one of those stereotypical african american guys too, full on ebonics and the bling bling stuff. not to mention that he jacked my $200 a&f jacket and some hilfiger shirts I had. bastard. also his brother would come over on the weekends and sleep in my bed when I wasn't there, and he wore this nasty ass cologne that stunk up my sheets... and another thing, I'd come back from home after the weekend and I'd see all these grease stains and food marks on my desk and smudge marks on my monitor. If there's one thing you don't do, it's leave smudge marks on a geek's monitor. I draw the line at that. Got so bad that I had to set a bios password on my computer cuz he jacked like 50 blank cds and used them to record cds with my burner without even asking me.

now onto the coed shower thing- I go to UCSC and we have coed floors + coed communal bathrooms... nothing like going into the bathroom and seeing a half nekkid chick walking around with a towels wrapped around her not to mention the ones who leave thongs hanging in the shower stalls :Q i only had one encounter where two people were fooling around in the shower stall next to me though so I guess I was lucky.

i got out my dorm and well they won't let me out of my contract, now living univ owned appt, little better but these roomates still suck.
can't wait to get my own pad in a few wks.
