things to do in alaska?

Hike Denali. It's one of the best places on earth to hike. My girlfriend and I made it to Kahilma Pass before realizing that we weren't properly equipped to go much further. If you're the adventure seeking type, I highly recommend it. There's also the Alyeska tram ride that offers a panoramic view of the area if you're into the leisurely activity. The restaurant at the top of the mountain serves really good food. You can't get salmon any fresher than what they serve there. I highly recommend it.

Donate 2 or 3 pints of blood to the local black flies. Sadly, that activity isn't optional, it's mandatory. Where in Alaska are you headed? In some places the black fly season will be over by July, in other parts you'll catch them at their hungriest. Among the nastiest insects ever.

get out. Best hiking i've ever seen in my life around anchorage.

Weather's beautiful in the summer in that area. Don't spend any more time inside than you need to. Get up and visit some of the abandoned mines. The mines themselves are kinda cool, but the fun part is the location . . . they're high up on mountains. On an overcast day sometimes you'll be standing in a steeply sloped grassy area looking down, and the top of the cloud layer will only be 10 or 15 feet from you, it is one of the most amazing sights you will ever see.

But yeah, watch out for the grizzlies.
