I'm in Houston for work until June 13th, and I've been here a about a week and a half so far. I haven't done much, just getting used to driving here (I live in Upper Peninsula of MI, gimme a break ) but I went to a Clutch concert this past weekend.

So far I've got:

Houston Zoo
Pennywise concert on May 10th
Brazos Bend State Park
Might make a trip to Galveston, swim in the ocean?
Might go up to Dallas for a weekend to see my cousin

I'd rather not drive too much, the Dallas trip would be a little far. Within like an hour or hour and a half of Stafford/Sugar Land?

Danke.

Galveston is awful. There's really only two things you can do in Houston. It's shop (Galleria) and eat. The food choices are nearly limitless here, that's why we're one of the fattest cities in the nation.

Houston has an airport, an Amtrak station, and a Greyhound station, so figure out which one you're closest to and plan your escape route accordingly.

Don't forget the abundant "book stores"

Food-wise - Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet
Space Center Houston - You might wanna go on the 31st of May, there might be a chance to see something special cuz of the launch from KSC (or not)
Galleria - Not sure really why, let's just say it's a Houston thing.

That''s all I can think of so far.

Ah, forgot to mention I've been to the Galleria a bunch of times in the past working here when I was in Uptown. I'll have to go back there once or twice again though.

Yeeeaaaah, that water doesn't sound too sweet. I didn't realize it was that shady. I'll check out your eat/drink suggestions, thanks!

Next to the Galleria is the Williams Building. It is one of the tallest buildings in America and has a wall of water in the courtyard. When I lived in Houston I used to go there to hang out, it is really pretty and relaxing and it is free. The Space Center is really fun and interesting. I am not sure what you like to do in your spare time, but I grew up there so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

space center is for kids, its not that great for adults (and its pricey). the best is probably the JSC tour .. buttttt .. then again .. you might feel gipped.

galleria is the baller mall of houston

You can watch your car the entire time. My boss and our network admin just got back from our Houston office and his truck got "popped" and had a laptop stolen. They weren't watching the truck for a few minutes while they ordered some food and that's when it happened.

Oh and I hate Houston.

This explains why you don't like strip clubs.
Haha, yeah. I like bars and whatnot, but strip club, I just can't see myself enjoying it.

I'm more of a homebody person anyway, I think there's enough stuff for me to see/do here.

i am *not* being sarcastic or facetious here, but there aint shit worthwhile in houston. there are , however , many good restaurants to go eat out in. a good option is to day-trip out to central texas and eat out at the famous barbecue restaurants. a a true city adventure, drive 3 hrs over into austin. there are lots of fun pubs and bars and natural attraction (hamilton pool, barton creek pool, parks, mount bonnell, etc) to see

drive down westheimer until you find a restaurant serving cuisine you've never had before. shouldn't take but a mile or so.

anyway, the numerous 24 hour 'news' stands are all closing because the city has decided to enforce the law against such places being located within 1500' of a school, church, park, daycare, or other 'sensitive' area.

apparently houston's world-class strip clubs are having to either move to a space located 1500' from a school, church, blah, or having the strippers wear pasties.

no idea if they'll start enfocing the 3' rule (lapdances have been prohibited since 1997).

at least the state's $5 additional cover charge tax got tossed out by a judge. thank you ellen cohen.

good old personal freedom democrats
