Things to Do In Orlando?

Hello All

My girlfriend and I are going to stay in Orlando Monday through Wednesday.

I would appreciate any and all information on things to do and not to do there. Since we are staying just a few days, we will be limited to the theme parks only(EPCOT and Universal, I guess, since we are grown up now).

What to expect (lines? how huge?)? Any hotel recommendations (right now considering Radisson Resort Parkway, Wyndham Orlando Resort, Best Western In The Wdw Resort)? What about the cheapest way to get theme park tickets?

What to avoid?

Definitely goto Universal's Islands of Adventure.

Epcot? Only if you need something to do. I'd recommend MGM or the Magic Kingdom over that. But to each their own I suppose.

Definitely Islands of Adventure. I think Epcot is kind of boring as well.

Lines vary but I think 45 min./ride is average

Forty five minutes of wait just to ride a five (?) minute ride?! Is it worth it?

What is the Islands of Adventure like?

Also, what about hotels? We don't want to be surrounded by kids. We realize though that in Orlando we'll have no choice, but would like to stick with grown ups as much as possible.

Now I am told that Epcot is pretty much a shopping mall with a food court in a theme park disguise. True?

Standing in the sun next to hundreds of sweaty people is part of the experience But yeah, you'll be spending most of the day standing in line. Sometimes if you're lucky there's no line at all. But I remember standing almost 2 hours for the Spiderman ride at Universal.

Islands of Adventure is like Disney/Universal but with real roller coasters (not the Thunder Mountain crap). I'm not too sure about hotels since I live here and rarely stay at them, sorry. I haven't been to Epcot in over 10 years but I think your description sums it up.

island of adventure is a must, epcots only good for that crash test ride thing, and then i suggest a water park, like blizzard beach.

wheres typhoon lagoon again? i remember it took a while to drive there, but thats my favourite place when we go to florida.

gotta go to universal studios too, even if it just for the back to future ride!!! haha i could ride that baby all day and never get bored!

I liked epcot because my gf did not like roller coasters, and epcot is really pretty, and it showcases things from like 25 different countries....so if you like that, I would do that.

Discovery Cove and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Disney's Paradise Island is cool for grownups.

IOA is a given. It's easily the best park in the area (though is a bit small)

Personally, I like Epcot. It's more educational-type fun than thrill fun, but there's tons of stuff there. If you do go there make sure you see the Chinese acrobats and the Japanese candy lady. The food in the world pavilion is awesome too.

I'd also hit Downtown Disney at night. You can see a concert at House of Blues, go clubbing/drinking at pleasure Island, or see Cirque du soleil (very good, but expensive).

Lines shouldn't be too bad this time of year. February used to be my favorite time to go, because the weather is good and the parks aren't as crowded.

IMO, EPOCT is not boring. Take a ride on Mission:Space and see for yourself. If you do go to the theme parks, go early in the morning and/or use fast pass. I was there during Christmas week (busiest time of the year) and expect for the crowds, we had a great time. I don't see crowds/lines being a huge problem. It's not Winter break when you'll be there, is it?

Discovery Cove. It is a Sea World park with restricted access and limited ticket sales. So no long lines.

#2 should be "pleasure island" - its like 6 clubs in 1, pretty lame but if you are staying near the parks its close. drinks are EXPENSIVE.

Discovery cove is also VERY expensive - $150-200 per ticket, IIRC?

Rosie O Gradys isnt open any more, neither is "Chruch street", per se.

Beaches are always good - shouldnt be too cold while you are here. Theres a TON of tourist like stuff on "International Drive", any hotel can give you lots of information on stuff thats there.

With Discovery Cove you get admission to Sea World for 7 days I think. Google Discovery Cove, 1st hit. No idea on how to get tickets reaaly very much cheaper.
