Are there any must dos/must sees in San Diego? Thanks.
Depends on how much money you want to spend.
Free stuff... go to any of the beaches. Walk down OB Pier. Visit Mount Soledad/Helix. Climb down the cliffs (trail) at Blacks Beach.
Food... hole-in-wall Mexican places are usually good. Any 'Bertos (Robertos, Roybertos, Alibertos and endless clones) are... interesting. For Baja inspired fresh Mex try the local chain Rubio's. There's East Buffet (or whatever they're called now) on Miramar Road for an extensive Chinese buffet. Lots of places in the Gaslamp District. Lots of Mexican restaurants in Old Town (specializing in HUGE margaritas).
SD Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World.
Drive north a bit and go scuba diving or snorkeling at La Jolla Cove, one of the nicest spots along the Southern California Coast.
La Jolla is an underwater park with no hunting or fishing allowed. You can't even take shells out of the water. Combined with the deep water trench just offshore feeding nutrient-rich water into the area, the variety of sea life is vast. When the sea lions are visiting it's common to have them swim in close and check you out. Lost of big orange garibaldi (CA's state fish), huge lobster hiding in the rocks, rays, small sharks and tons of various fish to watch.
It's one of my favorite places.
Are those small sharks just baby sharks that have big momma sharks not to far away?
Food: Bronx Pizza (San Diego's best; hyper informal)
Then find an authentic Mexican taco stand/shack. - Cuartos Milpas (This pace destroys any other taco shop in San Diego) - ras
Mexican seafood is particularly popular and special there.
Activities: Try homeless surfing.
Wait for ComiCon (local pass time).
Defraud Toyota w/a "stuck" pedal.
Eat contaminated Bumblebee tuna.
Huff SD's signature WD-40.
Enjoy!
