Things to do when installing your first new SSD

FYI...

I put the drive in, flashed with it with the latest firmware from the CD and installed Windows 7 ultimate.

I have pretty much everything installed now (Office, Adobe Suite, HL2, BF2, etc.) takes up about 50GB.

Still have yet to install the SSD toolkit of Matrix Storage.

i need a sanity check please. is this the latest firmware for Intel (G2) X25-M?

the label on the box says the drive was packaged in december, so I'm just wondering if i need to do this still.

That's the updated Trim FW (incl. write speed upgrade for 160gb drives), heard nothing about a newer FW and even if there probably won't be a big difference.

Got my drive today and updated fw. Installed w7 but forgot to turn on ahci in bios first. Will reinstall w7 tomorrow

I did bench with hdtune tho. 217mb/s avg read

I'm having some trouble with AHCI.
like in my previous post, i've installed Windows 7 with the BIOS in IDE mode.

Now, i want to set the bios in AHCI mode, boot into the windows 7 install DVD and reformat/reinstall.
I can't seem to do this with an ongoing reboot.

I go into the boot selection menu, select CD/DVD, but then it still tries to go into my existing windows 7 install then forces me to restart.

How do i fix this?

i did the fsutil behavior query ...etc thing in CMD Prompt and it came up 0. This tells me W7 supports TRIM, DUH!

How do i tell if my drive is actually getting trimmed? ASking because the Intel SSD Toolbox worked once (only once when i first installed it.) i ran it successfully and now i can't select my Intel SSD Drive and run the optimizer, In the status box it says "Error Connecting To." What free program can i use to ensure that my SSD is getting trimmed and cleaned?

Usually you have to hit a key for it to boot from CD/DVD other wise it will boot to your 2ndary boot device which sounds like what is happening.

Alternatively, You can enable ahci after win 7 install in IDE mode though you will be required to install the AHCI drivers when you boot up.

My understanding is that DisableDeleteNotify will only tell you if your OS has the ability to pass TRIM commands, not that it actually is.

To truly see if TRIM is working on your drive, install CrystalDiskInfo. If TRIM shows up, it's working!

I'm having the exact same problem ... did you ever find out what was happening? Any suggestions from others since I'm having the same issue as well?
