the way that explorer in windows will randomly change folder views even though i clicked on "apply to all folders" when initially setting it. that has happened since i can remember and still happens in windows 7.

pisses me off to no end.

I think I had something legitimate to post... but after reading this I can't remember what it was cause this pisses me off so much. Sorting through folders and folders of documentation set to large icon no matter how many times I switch to view as list makes me sad.

USB ports and plugs with labels so you know which direction to put it the first time. Something like a giant dot on one side of the plug and the same dot on one side of the port.

Hubs, routers, switches that don't need to be reset periodically (ie daily for many of them).

English spelling.

Non-timed stoplights where it makes sense to time them.

Automatic flush toilets that flush when you open the stall door instead of (a) when you are still using it or (b) never.

Related to today's capaicitor and clock thread: all alarm clocks should buzz if they just regained power. Then you'd wake up and can reset the clock. The capacitor would be nice (so the clock isn't lost). But a capacitor does add costs while a simple buzz would add no unreliable parts or any real expense.

Cancer.

how about we stop caring about penis pills and fucking hair loss and focus on something that matters?

Ironically, Viagra was discovered because of a side effect of an experimental heart medication.

So was Minoxidil.

I'd settle for high speed rail. Here in Florida we had a plan to build three high speed trains linking our large metro areas: Orlando, Tampa and Miami. The Fed was going to give us 400 mil and all we had to do was match it. This Fed money was pre-stimulus, it was budgeted back in 2005 and was part of the normal Fed transportation budget. Well, it got voted down. We're going to try again next year.

It would be pretty sweet IMO. 20 minutes by train to Tampa from Orlando, 1 hour by train to Miami.

Is the infrastructure in FL capable of supporting high-speed rail? Once you get to Miami, seems like there's a whole lot of swampy and protected habitat to cross--not to mention the long history of wetland devastation to FL after all the previous major civic undertakings..

Another car related one - my windshield takes far too long to defrost... My rear windows (with those wire things through them) are much more efficient, how about working on invisible heating elements?
Ford did that back in the late 80's. You can spot the cars because the windshield has a yellowish tint to it.

One of my ideas with stoplights: give smaller streets a 10-second delay for any action after detecting a car. That way, when you're driving along the street at night, a single car turning right won't cause the light to immediately turn red.

S Florida already has Amtrac and Miami has people movers. Unfortunately they dont actually go near where anyone lives.

How easy it is to get a driver's liscense in the US.

Seriously, I could have passed that test when I was 10.
