This week things are a bit slow on the up-chuck...

This reminds me, when you add new emoticons, please avoid some of the nastier ones. In particular, please no animated barf icon. D: There were also a few people used to link to from The Forum which shall Not be Named (****) that I never want to see again.

Change requested: A legitimate means of reporting a moderator for abuse which gets to the ears of someone interested in retaining membership
Why: Procedural justice, the sense that the way we do things is fair for everyone, is essential to maintaining a general sense of openness and fairness.
hahahhaa too funny....that is like having the police monitor the Police...
Totally uncalled for....it is a very small minority maybe even 50% of .005% who have issues with mods....

Perhaps. But the mentality of a police-force moderation community instead of a customer service moderation community is dysfunctional. In good customer service, now matter how low the incidence of bad customer service, there are standardized procedures in place to report problems.

I haven't read the thread, way too long at this point.

So I will just toss out my suggestion, may have been made before but anyway: we need a Mobile Gaming sub-forum. We already have PC Gaming and Console Gaming and Mobile Devices & Gadgets but there is no-where to properly post mobile game topics. Threads tend to get just tossed into whichever of these forums and it's very hard to spot them.

When the OP posts in a thread they started (obviously), their post needs to be highlighted or denoted in a way to signify that they are the OP of the thread.

That's kind of the point. "butt hurt" is not what you call people who are in the wrong in customer service; it's what you call someone on the internet that you've pwned. There's a difference of perspective with the a customer service attitude. For example, a stewardess has the right to restrain you, kick you from the flight, or even have the police called.

But you have he right to file a complaint and, in good CSR, the 'butt hurt' passenger has a legitimate and regular means of interacting with someone other than the stewardess union in trying to get the customer service complaint resolved.

It's just common sense when it comes to customer service: even if the customer is wrong 100% of the time.

Another nice feature would be if we could be better alerted to necroed threads. It would be nice to have an alert near the reply message box saying how old a thread is if it's, say, more than one month old. It could have a yellow background for threads 1 month to 1 year old, and red for more than 1 year old.

and that is your argument downplaying the fact that its just another way for those who have issues with mods to vent or retaliate against the mods....

I am so sorry but let me point out that would be fine and dandy if they mods were being paid or if you were paying to be a member of this site....

more ranting...now its "customer Service".......which will lead to total "customer abuse" of the system~!!

Sorry but things are just fine the way they are being run!!
I have had issues with mods but nothing major and for the most part they all try to do what is in the best interest of these forums!!

I love these forums, been one them since the original BBS days before Fusetalk. I think they are the cleanest and best ran forums on the internet. But here are a few things I'd like.

  1. In the quick search box, provide an option to search thread titles only! I hate having to go to advanced search to search for specific threads.
  2. Bring back some of the Fuse Talk emoticons
  3. Give option to remove navigation bar
  4. Get rid of the tapatalk nag screen when I visit on my phone
  5. I think some of the sub forums should be combined:
    • I really like the Home and Garden subforum and have wanted it for a while, but I think it could be combined with the Garage. More traffic would help get more posts to both, I'd think.
    • HTPC back with Home Theater or SFF.
    • Put General Hardware back on top, combine in computer help, Peripherals, Cases, Power Supplies, Memory and maybe MoBos. I understand why computer help was split from general hardware way back in the day, but no one who could help browses the computer help subforum. I used to never go to OT, until General Hardware was split 15 different ways and was no longer interesting. Now I rarely go to the hardware forums because they are too fragmented.
    • Move HT to the Social section
    • Black Friday made sense at one point, but has been dead the last few years, I think it should be merged back into Hot Deals.
    • I also like the idea of "metaforums" as others have suggested

Please, please do NOT add any type of rep system.

Being paid doesn't change the equation. No one on the AT staff is indentured. As with volunteers everywhere, they can leave at anytime they choose. I wouldn't come here at all if I thought someone was being forced to work for free.
I've done a great deal of volunteer work, and I've quit volunteer jobs because they became unpleasant or the demands on my time were to great. But I always did my very best while on the clock, and never once used being a volunteer as an excuse.

Or just change the color of the text for the thread title so you know before you even go into the thread that it' an old one. You'd think that would be easy enough but maybe not in VB.

The "New Posts" button; Would it be possible to do this?
If i click on the "Social" link it only shows the 7 forums under "Social". If i clicked on the "New Posts" button then could it show only new posts in those 7 forums.
And it i'm in Off Topic & i clicked on the "New Posts" button then could it show only new posts in Off Topic?

My Computer Specs/Rigs info
Is there still a want for this? I know a lot of people used to ask about it but nothing ever happened. People now use their sigs to show their comp specs or link to some other site sometimes. Would be nice for a mostly computer tech forum to have a place for these.
I was thinking today it might just be easier to have a sticky thread in General Hardware or someplace where people could list their specs in a post & just use a link to that post. Use the link in your sig or maybe have a place in your "Profile" for liks to that & maybe Heatware.

Maybe have a layout in the first post to use so hopefully everyone uses the same.
  • Brand - Dell, Lenovo, homemade or whatever
  • CPU -
  • Mobo -
  • Memory -
  • etc.
  • etc.
  • etc.

 +1 for this sort of idea.

 +1, it's EXACTLY the sort of solution to the dilemma of folks wanting fewer sub forums. If they get to pick and choose what to view.

Also, if implemented, it should turn off the social forums by default. Or maybe just enable OT. Help keep new members looking for tech away from the underbelly of ATF. Least until they are ready for that sort of exposure.

Yeah, I wish I could have a "New Posts" button which would display only tech subgroups. Not that I don't post in OT once in a while, but OT tends to overwhelm the other forums when included in the list.

so are you trying to say that the mods don`t do the very best they can?? That is an interesting take...

You were asked, along with dixiecrat to stop this tit for tat.

Don't pick it up with more members.

I was only using "social" as an example. There are 7 categories of forums here.
If your on the main forum page the new post button shows all new posts.
If your in one of the sub-categories the new post button shows all new posts only in the forums that are in that group.
If your in a specific sub-forum the new post button shows all new posts in that forum only.

And that's an obtuse interpretation.
Back up a little and address the actual point I made. You volunteer to do a job, you do it well, and when you don't have the time or desire to do it anymore you quit. That's my point.

Stop this back and forth about the mods.

Joe is asking for suggestions, not for arguments between the members.

If you don't have a constructive comment to post, then don't.
