Think a new Nexus 4 or N5 will be be announced at Google I/O? Or Motorola X phone?

Like a 32GB version with price drops for the 8 & 16GB models? Maybe a refresh with LTE?

I don't know about a hardware refresh.... The Nexus 5 could be announced or that X Phone thing from Motorola.

I was going to get a Nexus 4 in April but I might wait till after I/O at this point....

What does everyone think?

Realistically N7 successor is more likely. And the Google Glass thing. I don't see a compelling reason for Google to update N4 yet. Motorola X phone will likely debut "independently" if I have to guess.

They are not going to announce the Nexus 5 so soon, the 4 is still selling as fast as they can make it. I really don't think Google created the Nexus to make them money anyway. Motorola on the other hand is a complete different story.

Just curious what everyone thinks. I think I might wait will after I/O in May. It won't hurt. I think I can deal with my current phone till then.

Didn't Google make the Nexus line to show that good phones don't need to cost an arm and a leg? As well as Tablets and Netbooks lol! Pretty sure they make money off it on the premise you are using there products. Which works for them.

I think there is zero chance of Motorola announcing a phone at Google I/O. Google is still being exceptionally cautious and keeping Motorola separate from Google (not sure I agree with it, but kinda understand it). So the X-Phone will be a Motorola event.

Hopefully a new Nexus tablet.

I would not be shocked if there was a new Nexus phone. There have been some weak rumors. But it's not something I'm expecting.

There will be a new ≈7" nexus tablet at I/O. I wouldn't be totally surprised if it had phone support built in, but it will be primarily a tablet.

New phone (replacement for N4) isn't going to happen for another 7-8 months.

Google made the Nexus line as a reference platform for hardware partners to shoot for and as a curation for new ideas/technologies on the hardware and software side. It really wasn't until the release of the Galaxy Nexus that they really tried to target the consumer market.

As for I/O, I'd suspect a N7 successor is a sure thing, and hopefully a slew of improvements to base android for the tablet form factor, but I would not be holding my breath for a new handset or a price drop of the current one, or a storag size increase.

A Motorola flagship device will almost certainly be announced at a separate, stand alone event as google tries to ensure that there are no calls for favoritism because of googles ownership of Motorola Mobility.

refreshed Nexus 7 w/ minor spec upgrades (Tegra 4, better cameras, 1080 display)... maybe a refreshed Nexus 10

official announcement of Key Lime Pie, hopefully the announcement of a desktop/webtop addition to Android (Chrome OS and Android will eventually be merged i hope!)

Google Glass.

God I hope Google announces a Google TV that doesn't suck. What I really want is to be able to stream video from my Nexus 4 to a Google TV and play it on a large screen. I bought the Netgear PTV3000 with Miracast and this thing absolutely sucked. So I need Google to make something that will work with my Nexus and Android phones in general.

Glass, TV, and maybe Moto

Might get Sprint/Verizon N4 leaks separately before then. Definitely no N5.

I think it will be a refresh of the N7, & a formal introduction to Glass.

A new Nexus 7, something about Google Glass and the announcement of Key Lime Pie. I don't think there will be a new Nexus 4 or X Phone in I/O.

I want to go to an I/O event.

Tegra 3 is OK for most people, but could use a boost.

However, it's in desperate need of a better speaker system.
Personally I really couldn't care less about the speakers on any mobile device and cringe when I hear a mobile device get slated for poor onboard speakers (which is pretty much every review for every mobile device, ever.) Mobile = headphones. That's just me though, I don't know if my opinion is typical here or not.

I think we'll see a new N7, KLP and Nexus GoogleTV box. Personally, I want a Chromebox media pc with good, multi-channel audio hardware. Probably on my own here though

I personally loathe headphones. You can make mobile devices with good speakers, for example the hp touchpad.

Probably not typical, considering you said yourself that so many reviews mention bad speakers on mobile devices.

As for mobile = headphones, that doesn't make sense for a tablet IMO. A tablet is getting close to a laptop in some ways, and therefore quality of on-board speakers is a very valid concern. With the Nexus 7 I'm often forced to use headphones even when sitting home on the couch by myself, because the speaker is terrible. I have no such problems with my iPad.

And ironically, my cell phone has better speakers than my Nexus 7. If they can do it on a 4.7" cellphone weighing less than 150 grams, surely they can do it on a 7" tablet.

The speaker(s) work really well actually, it could be yours are blown. I read that they had some problems with the speakers in some units.

I own an HP Touchpad which may be the only tablet I've ever tried that could be said to have decent speakers.

If only the HTC One didn't have its other flaws because I'm interested in its front-facing speakers (although my HTC One X has a surprisingly good speaker compared to the tinny one in my Note).

If I'm out and about with my mobile device, where do I most of my video watching, I'm wearing headphones. If I'm at home, my device is hooked up to my TV.

I've had 3 different Nexus 7 units. (First one had the screen lift issue. Second one I broke on the sidewalk.) The speakers on all sucked. Like I said, it's worse than my cell phone.

If I'm in my living room watching on the TV, I'm usually using my WD TV Live SMP, but the times I'm on the couch using the Nexus 7 it's for YouTube videos and news reports and such. However, I may occasionally watch shows on the Nexus 7 in a bedroom though if the TV is being used... but I've been using the Nexus 7 less and less for this because the speaker is so bad.
