Think I made a boo-boo

I am putting together a new PC with an e6600. I wasn't paying much attention while I was assembling it last night as I was going 50 things at once. My question is, does the c2d come with some sort of thermal pad/past already applied to the retail heatsink? I recall seeing 3 gray stripes on it, but didn't think anything of it. Just put on my AS5 and went on with the rest of the installation.

I am not at home right now, or I'd just take it off and look. The PC hasn't even been turned on as I'm waiting for my RAM and DVD-RW to arrive tomorrow, but thought that I would take the opportunity to ask before I get my hands dirty again.

I've never seen a retail or aftermarket hsf that didn't come with pre-applied paste or a thermal pad. Maybe some high-end hs(no-f)'s do, but a retail cpu w/hsf probably had something there already. I'd pull it off and make sure it's right.

Your description of how much attnetion you paid to what you were doing makes me think you should do this anyway

i've always used aftermarket stuff before and never had to worry about it. if i hadn't been reading so much stuff in anticipation of my RAM coming tomorrow i wouldn't have thought twice about it here. as it is i took it off, cleaned it all, and reapplied my AS5. now i'll spend the rest of my day staring at at my otherwise complete computer til UPS comes tomorrow. thanks for the feedback

It's better when they dont come with paste, because i take it off any way and put on AS5 or something similar.
