OK so here is the deal yo...

i had a PC that had dual GTX 760 in SLI with a 750watt power supply. Both video cards ran fine. I then bought a GTX 980ti and loving it so i no longer needed the 2 GTX 760's so i sold them. sold one locally and one on ebay. a month later the guy on ebay files a return dispute against me saying the item dont work, here is a copy n paste of his message:

"Hi, well the video card stop working and now it does not anu type of video. I used it 3 times mostly because I was built my PC and now with my pc complet anything happen. And last time before stop gave me artifact. So I think that I received it with a short life time remaining. So I have return it to get my money back."

to me it sounds liek he burnt the card out with a bad power supply or one that dosnt have the minimum requirements for the card and now is trying to pin it on me and get his money back and leave me with a burnt out card...reason for saying this is my other one i sold is still going with no issues.

I have requested that the guy send me his PC specs and a picture of the power supply label displaying its wattage. As i think he burnt the card out.

What do u guys think any way i can confirm this? ALSO lets say he has a 500 watt power supply wich is minimum requirements for the card...wouldn't u have power loss from the CPU and other pc components dropping the wattage to below minimum specs for the card? wouldn't u want a power supply that is a lil over powerd for the minimum specs to compensate for this?

I would go through the dispute process with ebay to see what happens. He is admitting it worked and later on stopped working. If it worked when he received it and you didn't offer a warranty should it fail later he is SOL. Of course ebay may see it differently, but what the heck? Give it a shot.

The way ebay sees things and the way a sane, rational and unbiased person would can sadly be very different, especially if you're the seller. Having said that if you clearly listed it as used and working and it was fine when he first got it, I think you're in the clear. I don't know what grounds he would have to try and pin this on you and extract a refund.

It strikes me as pretty asinine for him to make out you deliberately sold it knowing it was almost out of life (if that's what he was implying), how could you know? Last time a gpu died on me it had 7 years of flawless service and then crashed in the middle of a game and that was it gone.

Hopefully ebay sides with you, they can be unpredictable with these sorts of things.

This is my thoughts, plus, you have no idea if he clocked the card or not, or damaged it during installation.

When a manufacturer lists a power supply recommendation for a video card, they take into account the rest of the system as well as build in a safety margin. Not all PSU are created equal, some so-called 500W can barely supply 250W (with horrible ripple & noise and poor voltage regulation) while a good quality 500W can supply 500W with little ripple & noise and excellent voltage regulation. And on top of this the lower quality PSU won't have proper systems in place to limit possible damage to other components if/when they die.

He admitted that it worked when he received it.

I wouldn't go any further than that with my defense. Done deal.

This. Unless you gave a warranty with the card, and as long as it worked when he received it (it says it did), then he doesn't have a leg to stand on. Don't make it complicated. Just tell ebay that you sold it as used, there's no warranty, and it worked when he got it. Anything beyond that is on him, that's the risk in buying used electronics.

well its in ebays hands now...guy sent me a pic of his pc specs and a pic of his 1350watt power supply...told ebay that the guy admitted in his claim that it worked and i find it strange that almost one month since he got it (he received it in nov 23) all of a sudden today it "became faulty" and was due to it being near death?...i dunno i have a bad feeling ebay is gonna swing in this guys favor...but i guess time will tell...ill keep u guys posted

here is a post of his most recent email to me when i asked for pics:

"Hi My PSU is fine this is what I´m using right now is perfect. I know about PC, I installed and works just some time, now totally died. The funny this is that I used just last PES and with that is a piece of anything I had a lot video card and is first time Now Im using a hd5750 and works perfect. With my PC, and when I was watching a video on youtube gave me artifact after that any type of video. The fan works with a lot of loud!, I tested it in my brothers PC the same story and is not about my PC, is well maintained. So for my is clear that it comes with a lot of use, thats why stop working with my in what short time."

Does anyone else think it is fishy he is sporting a good 1350W psu yet is in the market for and is pressing for a refund on a 760?

Probably took a photo of a mates psu as he doesn't want to send the real image: 1980's AT psu with paperclips soldered onto the 12v rail, which he has vigorously rammed into your poor ex-card.

Having said this, eBay will make you pay for sure.

I feel for you bud.

It's worth noting even if ebay sides with your it's entirely possible to open a separate paypal dispute, and they will go back (180?) days, far further than eBay's 30 day policy.

He only used the card/his PC three times in one month?

That alone is suspicious enough, along with his broken English.

Yup. Everyone knows the cardinal rule. If you have broken English, you're suspicious!
