Asus A8Js comes out soon. 14.1" screen, 7700go 512mb, 2gb ddr2, 100gb hdd, 2ghz Core 2 duo, $1500. I'd wait if i were you as that is by far the best deal i've ever seen on a notebook before rebates or coupons...

If you want to game then look for a notebook with nothing less than either a 7600go or a MR x1600. And deffinatley go for the best Dual Core processor you can afford for Photoshop, you'll be glad you did.

i think getting a 2.13GHz C2D with 1gb ram would be worse than getting a 2GHz C2D with 2gb ram...don't waste too much money upgrading the CPU. just make sure it's Core 2 Duo and not Core Duo

Agreed. I forgot Photoshop loves Memory as well. 2gb will deffinatley help alot more than a .13GHz cpu speed increase. But again, for $1200 his options are limited with such costly desires.

It refuses to take a charge. When you plug the charger in, it charges for half a second to a few seconds and just stops. And it recently melted the charger plug. Plus it gets so hot you can cook food on it. But that part is because its a P4.

Don't get the 512mb of memory on the video card, it's a waste of money go for 256 at most. If I were you i'd first use whatever I have left to upgrade the screen to a higher resolution, and then possible to a Core 2 Duo cpu if i could. The free upgrades are really nice though.

Even the slowest Core (2) Duo cpu will best your P4. You are correct though, your video card is mostly better than any notebook option in your price range.

i think it's a good buy actually. i doubt he'd be playing at higher resolutions than 1440x900 and that's already higher than a standard 17"/19" desktop monitor. if he wants to game, i wouldn't want him using anything less than a 7600.

OOPS nvm i thought the 256mb version would be a 7400 or something. OP, go with the 256mb version. the extra 256mb won't help you much. i 100% agree with Rockingacoustic's recommendations (i'm looking at HPs site so i know what he's talking about is right). with the $125 you save from dropping down to the 256mb version, spend the first $75 of it on a Core 2 Duo upgrade. it's faster than the T2250 (despite the lower MHz) and is 64-bit so you'll be perfectly set for 64-bit technology down the road. if you can spend $125 on the WXGA+ Ultra upgrade, go for it, otherwise don't spend money on a display upgrade. you most likely won't run above 1440x900 resolution so the $50 upgrade is a waste
