at the moment i have 1.5gigs of corsair value ram (pc 5300 ddr2) and the timings seem very bad (5-5-5-15). i have a feeling that i'm losing major performance in both my overclock and my system overall because of them. so i was thinking of replacing them with another gig and a half of patriot patriot memory
i really would like your opinions as to whether i should get new ram or stick with the sticks i have. and if you think i should get new ram, is the patriot good or would you recommend something else (preferably in the same price range).

there's no way I'd swap out the memory you have now for faster memory.

All you're talking about is latency, not bandwidth.

the intel platforms seem to like the low latency stuff, and the AMD boxes that are 939 and 940 based don't seem to care.

You may boost your 3D Mark scores by a few hundred, but that's not worth the pain of selling and ordering new RAM -

Be happy with what you have, and next time you build a box, if it's still on your mind, buy the fastest stuff you can get regardless of price and you'll never look back...

I find you very mistaken.

It is AMD plataforms that are most sensitive to latencies. The lower latencies, the better. On contrary, Intel plataforms are most benefited from high bandwith.

Latencies help the on-die memory controller. Bandwith helps the starved Pentium 4...

To the OP: Do not change your memory. I am afraid, though, that you are not runing on dual channel config. It is highly recomended you used paired modules to get the best memory performance. That is, use 4x512Mb, 2x1Gb, etc.

That may be the problem.
