having WoW drama lately and really feeling like I'm on the verge of quitting, but anyone have any suggestions for something else to play to feed my addiction? with the jersey summer coming up and a new work schedule that leaves me with wednesday - friday off, I'm foreseeing a lot of time spent in-doors in the AC in the next few months.

I think my favorite MMORPG of all time in theory was FFXI, but the fact that you 100% needed a group to do anything really killed it for me. housing was cool and I really really loved the class system, though.

also, have absolutely 0 interest in PvP. any game centered around it would be a snoozefest and not having it at all wouldn't be a factor for me.

edit: free trial is also pretty much key as well.

Can solo all the way up to max level with group quests optional along the way and some very interesting group instances at the end game.

EDIT: Free Trials should be available, they offer them regularly/constantly.

It has a separate area for PvP or PvMP (players Vs. Player levelled & controlled monster classes).

You are also able to duel against another character. A formal battle which can be initiated almost anywhere. A defeat occurs when you hit 1 Morale (HP) and as far as I am aware, you incur no loss of exp/item degredation/items etc.

I think Lotro and AoC both have free trials. Try them both and see if you like either one. For me personally, Lotro looked really nice and had an interesting story, but combat seemed kind of boring.

In the case of AoC, I played at the beginning, quit after a couple of months, and then played again for a couple of months at the end of last year. I quit again because I didn't have time to play (due to work). Since then, there have been server merges in January, a lot of content and bug fixes added (one new region, several dungeons and quests, and a new region to be added in the next month). I think I am probably going to try it again soon. I am going see if they offer free server transfers after the next patch and try to move to a PvE or RP-PVP server.

Quitting WoW in order to play another mmo is like quitting paintball so you can start playing with cap guns. Either solve the drama and keep having fun or quit mmo's. There is no better available option atm and likely wont be until blizzard's next mmo (currently in the works) is released.

He has a point as well. All MMOs seem to have drama, so no matter where you go, you will probably encounter it. Maybe you should try to solve the drama or move to another server?

The problem with WoW is that it is terribly outdated graphically.

Use this drama to quit mmo's altogether so you can maybe have a decent rest of your life.

If by soloable you mean, you an play alone then yes. But, the EVE universe all revolves around alliance wars and politics, and after a few months of soloing you'll find the lack of positive feedback of just making money/improving skills making the game very boring.

Just quit MMOs

I did what you are doing now, quit WoW (after Burning Crusade) went on to find the "next" MMO and never found one after going through like 8 games.

Then I just decided to stop MMOs, and it was a great feeling.

I play lots of FPS, RTS and other games of which I missed a lot in the last few years because of MMO's

It's like playing catch up on a ton of great games that are each about 100 times more satisfying than anything in an MMO.

different stokes for different folks. I tend to find console RPG's ultimately unsatisfying because of the lack of any kind of social aspect and have no interest in FPS's.

I've been playing online RPG's since the days of text-based MUD's and have been pretty consistently playing them except a brief break between quitting FFXI and starting WoW. I like the genre, I just keep thinking maybe it's time to move on. my guild is the only reason I've played for so long.

and for all the talk of "zomg mmo's ruin lives," the only thing MMO playing as affected in my life is the amount of time I spend watching tv (I was less); I've never fallen into the trap of putting my gaming life ahead of my real life, other than maybe a couple days at work where I've been a little more tired than usual because of a late raid.

Yeah... I too played a few MUDs, started with Ultima Online and played almost every MMO to max level.

I didn't think I could quit them, but I did.

Though, I have been getting the itch to retry COV/COH with their new expac.

I will also probably at least try Star Wars TOR.

I think investigating the F2P MMO's - yes even the Korean ones - is a pretty good idea. No monetary investment, and you can easily be amused or at least occupied for a minimum of a few weeks before moving on.

Right now on my play list: Mabinogi, Shin Megami Tensei : Imagine (MegaTen), Runes of Magic

LOTRO.

Or just pick up a good book or two, or spend more time sleeping , probably time better spent

checked my email.
LOTRO has a special going on where you can get the original game + expansion for $9.95 and the monthly fee will also stay locked in at $9.95 instead of $14.95
