bleh. didn't even make it out of the starting newbie quests in DDO, combat is just really really bad.

my LOTRO 10-day trial is already down to 8 and I haven't even finished DL'ing it yet >< really interested to try it since it's the top rated at mmorpg.com

edit: /facepalm turbine downloader was capping my up/down speeds. took the cap off and went from 13 hours remaining to 1.

edit2: download just finished

I've been keeping myself away from all MMOs, mostly because none have brought all the right ingredients together imho. I really don't want a true RPG or all that fantasy lore - I can only handle so much of that, and investing the time and completely engrossing myself into an RPG world for an MMO, is more than I can handle in general.
Tabula Rasa came SO close - but dropped the ball on a few aspects that just killed it for me.

I definitely prefer more sci-fi, and would prefer more twitch-based action than stat-based virtual dice rolls.

I am really excited to give Jumpgate: Evolution a spin whenever I get the chance. It might be fun but still won't be the answer to the traditional MMO that I could be said to be longing for.

Something along the lines of Tabula Rasa, EverQuest, PlanetSide, and a dash of possibly Huxley, all rolled into one. A little more favorable for some, a little less of others.
Sony's MAG could be enjoyable, but so much is unknown about that, hard to really form an opinion on it. The idea of Planetside and the upcoming Huxley are great ideas, but Planetside dropped the ball big time, and Huxley really just looks like Unreal Tournament meets MMO. A persistent world FPS would be amazing if they approach it perfectly.

checked my email.
LOTRO has a special going on where you can get the original game + expansion for $9.95 and the monthly fee will also stay locked in at $9.95 instead of $14.95
http://www.lotro.com/trial/

that is what got me started. I was looking for a new game anyway and the pricing kinda sealed the deal. I'm level 18 after a few weeks of light playing and enjoying it a lot more than my last mmorpgs conan and ffxi but I guess that isn't saying much lol. It is a really good game though from what I can tell and the graphics are pretty sweet in dx10 mode.

If you are looking for a complex combat system in LOTRO, I would suggest the Warden as a potential candidate. They are a new class that came out with the expansion that have an interesting "Gambit" system where they have three base skills that translate from 2-5 length combos.

Lot of fun to play and easily the best solo class available. Check them out. I made a Warden my main soon after rolling one. Lots of fun to do group quests on your own without being too much more higher level then the quest.

I lol'd.

Yeah, even from playing the trial like I did...it is not soloable. I did not like the game either way...

Just keep playing WoW, or take a break...I got a 360 and started playing some FPS games, because I was never good at FPS with consoles, gave me something to hone my skills on.

or just L4D/TF2 and kill stuff

The real trick is finding an MMO other than WoW that has a Macintosh client. Everything but WoW is Windows only ...

You could also give FFXI another try if it's been a long time since you played it. A lot of the updates over the past year or so have reduced the requirement of grouping quite a bit, and helped it out in other ways. It's certainly still not a casual game by any means, but it's a hell of a lot more accessible than it was before.

I'm waiting on game called Aion. Its korean game and it released in korea last year. Its just like wow but better graphic better character model etc. I played chinese beta and its just like wow. They copied too much off wow.
Korean has over 30 servers and chinese has over 50 servers. Its huge in Asia and its coming out in states sometime this year. It has doubled their stock(NCsoft) and I think its going to be hit in U.S market.
Story is about close to angels and demons.
PCSing to korea next month. Cant wait to play this game.

If you like japanese RPGs you'll love the how characters look in this game.

Warden is the class I chose as a first time player. I'm not sure it was a wise decision as the gambits seem a little tricky to get used to but I'm sure down the road I'll be glad.

I just started playing Guild Wars again. It can be done solo'd (with the help of some NPC's). Plus there's no monthly subscription. And there's plenty of content with the 3 expansions.

Or until Star Wars: The Old Republic (kotor mmo).
