Been to a mental health facility twice all voluntary. Only thing you can do is eat, read, sleep and shit. Like being in prison. The shrinks I visited were full of shit. Get this! I was having a discussion about the mafia in our talks and this dumb ass shrink told me if the mafia kills one of your family members they're take care of you. WTF! REALLY? What a complete asshole!

I need a life coach and I assume the OP needs one too. It's normal to be depressed, just don't take all the bull shit pills.

No, it's NOT normal to be depressed...and depression beyond a bit of sadness over an issue requires some serious PROFESSIONAL help.

Wouldn't it be more field expedient to just grow a sack, act like a man and move on with life?

Then there's that option too...works for some, not for others. The truly sackless never seem to make the jump.

Usually the homeless are just displaced somewhere else. Like literally, physically picked up and then dropped off in a different area of the city (or someone elses city)

If they are violent, they can be taken against their will or voluntarily to a psychiatric care facility, usually at a hospital, this may last a few days and usually results in a string of pills and a requested return visit. This is usually the exact same facility that someone who suffers from severe depression/suicidal tendencies, etc. goes to get their xanax refilled (usually lie about their tendencies :sneaky: )

Or they are charged with a crime and go to jail.

At least where I am, I'm not aware of "psych wards" that house those who are just mentally ill.

I know what you're going through, OP. I've been in and out of psychiatric wards since I was 22 (I'm 50 now). I've been off all my meds except for Ritalin and Lorazepam (Ativan). I'm going to the urgent care tomorrow and getting paxil and buspar. I've heard nothing but good news about this combination. You could also try buspar and Extended-release melatonin at night. If you feel like hurting yourself than you must go! Please!

It's absolutely true. It's a normal cycle of life that has to be worked through. People have been getting depressed for thousands of years with no pills or psychologists. It's when you get on those damn horrible pills where you get stuck in a terrible dependent cycle and start the roller coaster.

That's not depressions though.
Depression is when your mind is stuck in a negative feedback loop, disabling your ability to perceive the world, and then letting you slip into a level of self-hate/disgust which only serves to aggravate the situation.
Being depressed is not being sad for a reason, it's being sad and constantly inventing more reasons to be sad, to the point where life seems worthless, not for days, weeks or months, but as far back as you can think, and as far forward as you can imagine.

It's only the medication that allows a depressed person to get out of a state of sadness that led them into depression, much in the same way that a healthy person would deal with the sadness inducing event.

They are very accurate. Everyone's experience will be different, but the bit about the dead fish is probably universal to real depression. Depression isn't being sad, it isn't poor self esteem, it isn't attention whoring. Depression is the void. It's also something that tends to happen and change gradually so knowing where you are at on that journey is basically impossible, the best anyone can do is say how they were at some point in hindsight.

Going through that blog, it seems like the majority of the posts are about one imagined mental illness or childhood trauma/self-diagnosis after the next. I get the implication that she was hardly punished as a child and as a result of a carefree childhood, she finds the responsibilities of adulthood miserable.

The body has a way of shutting off your sack during legitimate depression.

Try to make sure you get into a good one. I've heard horror stories about bad ones.
