Test drove both of them today.
The 2-door is cheaper by 1.5 K, but the wheel at the back blocks my vision thro' the rear view mirror. (55k miles)
The 4-door seems okay, except that the driver side door squeaks a bit. (73 k miles)

Both vehiclkes seem clean (accident / title - wise).

The dealership is *trying* to sign me up for a 24 mo/ 24 k mile extended warranty that will add a whopping 2.3 k (!) to the total. I dont think I am paying that much

However, the big question is: 2-door or 4-door? Both are automatic (I would have preferred manual)

Thnx!

p.s: before someone says pics, I WILL post them once I make my decision!

it's a solid vehicle with the 4.3 vortec. my S10's door does that too (all blazers/jimmys/sonomas/s10s will do that after enough miles)

I drive a '00 2 door Jimmy. Trust me, that tire on the back gets old FAST. Every time you want to get stuff in and out you have to unlatch the tire, open the glass, and then open the dropgate. I wish I had the 4 door. Plus the giant blank spot back there sucks for visibility. The two door version is also a major PITA to get people and stuff in and out of the back seat.

Also -

The rear speed sensor went out at 3,000 miles....that SUCKED!.
Drivers side window motor has died twice with only 50k on the clock.
The security system is on the fritz and locks the engine down on occasion.
It rattles and squeeks like a mofo. The squeeks from the hatch are enough to drive me insane.

Unless I got it for DIRT cheap I probably wouldn't own a second one.

I wish I had that kind of money.

I am looking at a vehicle @ $ 10 k or so. 4 runners (even the used ones) are expensive. Just checked the user reviews for Chevy Blazers on Edmunds.com. Some either absolutely hate it, while others seem to be happy with it.

Get the 4 door. 2 doors suck unless it's a sports car. Plus, the 2 doors have a really short wheelbase which will result in you rolling the vehicle over and your computer will be an orphan. Spray silicone lube on those hinges.

Are you going to be a poser, or do you need a SUV?

For a civil engineer who goes to off-road jobsites, and also camping / hiking (frequently) I think SUV might help...
I currently own a Mazda Protege (paid off / @ 30 mpg). I would better have a good reason to buy a different vehicle ( == loan) that gives me <20 mpg

Test drove a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4WD Sport / 4 DR.
Now that makes things worse for me. The Jeep also fits my budget perfectly

When a car/truck hits about 3years old the reliability and quality most of the time will be based on how well it was taken care of by the first owner/s.

So get the one that is the best shape and offers the most for what you want.

Get the Jeep. Better off road capabilities, nicer ride and it wont rattle apart on you. I have a '95 Grand Cherokee that I've put 140,000 miles on with no troubles at all. I love this thing and will hate to hand it down to the kid in a few months because I know he's going to beat the crap out of the old girl :frown:

Yep, a Cherokee will definately be cheaper. I sold my 99 Classic for $8500 and I can find 97-98 for under $6000 if I look hard.
