Thinking of Buying a Hybrid Car (Toyota Prius)

You will get made fun of from the major motorheads. Why do you guys want the Pirus? I'd perfer a hybrid accord or civic, but thats just me.

My dad was the one of the first to be trained to sell them here in the US. I got to drive the japenese model before it hit the states and even back then it was sweet. I got to drive the new 04 model and its ten times better. Here in Vermont, they are huge because of the enivormentalists and my dad has probaly sold the most of them so far. Hes even planning on starting his own prius company, that would deal with dealing with crashes of them, if he can get some funding. I can answer some general questions, but hes the person that could literally talk all day about them

It is a 4 Cylinder engine does it pull decent enough? or do you have to haggle?

Well, for starter, the Honda hybrid gets better gas milage than the prius. (isn't this the reason why you would buy a hybrid in the first place?)

The Honda looks better.

Haven't heard of any engine problems... the warranty on them is pretty extensive anyway, but no, i haven't heard of anything major, espically with the new ones. The car has plenty of get up and go and handles pretty well... when they first came out, i took it on some back roads with my dad and gave it some juice and it went well. What sells me on the car is the technology behind it, from the gps navigation, to the touchless start, to the braking recharging the batterys. My friends dad has been a long time supporter, and works for the electric company, just bought a new one from my dad a couple of months ago, but unforentualy he totaled it and its now in the body shop for some major work. Overall, if i had the money and wanted a car like that, I would DEFINLTY take it over a hybrid civic.

When having issues obviously has to be taken to the Dealer...am I wrong?

I have a Chrysler Lebaron 92' ... so I guess that would make me an heretic.

Ive never really understood the whole hybrid thing.... ya it saves a little gas... but it has absoluetely no freakin power to go anywhere. Why spend an extra $6 grand over say a Corrola which overall only gets 10 MPG or so less then some of the hybrids... In the long run youd save more money with something like a Corrola.

Hmm it is a fairly new technology but will probably improve through the years.
I think it is a good alternative to other engines.

Mr. Bush should encourage more tax credits on clean fuel vehicles than on big tax cuts when you buy an SUV. (Section 179 around $21000)

the thing that always appealed to me was not so much saving money on gas but not using as much.
