Getting an apartment and i feel like these are the best choice since they're compact yet still offers a wide range of weights

Those things cost way too much. You can buy a full set of weights and even a weight bench for the price of the heavier bowflex dumbbells.

Do you have a daily workout plan that involves a variety of weights? I recently got a 40lb dumbbell set for like $30 and leave it set with 20lbs on each one most of the time. My workout strategy is to leave the dumbbells in front of the TV so when I sit down to watch I see them and do a basic arm workout while watching TV.

I think you're better off with a bench and regular dumbbells. Those selectech things seem very gimmicky.

I'd probably get them if I had the extra cash. Can't beat the convenience, altho I've heard they've broken on a few occassions. Try reading the reviews on Amazon - overall they're pretty well rated.

I really doubt you can buy a set of dumbbells for what you pay for the SelectTech. I wanted to buy a set (of dumbbells) a while back but couldn't find them for a good enough price.

I was looking at the Select Tech 552's last week, I figured I would apply for the credit, yeah they cost WAY too much but the commerical says "payments as low as 9 dollars a month" with the interest that would make them even more expensive ha. But I don't mind making payments + it'll help boost my credit score even a little.

apparently I think I got approved, because I got an email from Bowflex today " ?Bowflex Order Thank you. The order you placed on 5/23/2007 is being processed"

I paid WAY TOO MUCH for them, I plan to pay more than the $6 a month I was quoted, but honestly price aside I don't have much room and I did want a range of weights, so these were the only thing out there that fit my bill. Yeah I'll end up paying $647 for a set with the stands, but the space I'll save in the little bit I have is worth money to me. Also 52 LBS per dumbbell is plenty I don't plan on entering strongmen contests and I honestly don't see myself being able to curl 52LBs one handed more than once anytime soon.

i was considering the bowflex ones and went to sears to try them out before I decided. They felt really cheap to me and I had a hard time correctly selecting different amounts of weight on them.

this might sound dumb, but the Power Blocks umm I dunno, look ugly to me. They very well might be better than the Select Techs but I can't get over how they look clunky. They're cheaper though.

I have the select deck and I love them. Yes they are more expensive, but they take up about 2 sq feet of space vs having 20 different dumbells around. They are very sturdy and comfortable to use, not as good as having a full set, but close.

Why do you need them? Most guys can get away with a 300lb barbell set and a 120 lb. dumbell set.

I have a barbell/dumbbell set right now, it's a hassle to change the weight on them, on the fly? forget about it. And the stupid screw on claps never hold tight, so after 30 seconds of me lifting I get rattling and clanking metal plates. That's annoying. Also they take up a decent amount of space.

I thought about it, I really didn't feel the need for a barbell, so I figured a 104lb set of dumbbells would be a better compromise. I know the Selecttech's are priced to where they're a rip off, but for what I wanted they fit the bill *shrug*

If you want a bench to go with them Bowflex is throwing in a free 3.1 bench if you order before the 29th, I got approved for credit so I jumped in on it. Expensive as hell, so I don't know if I'd consider the bench "free" but anything they're willing to include is good. I only have to pay 9 bucks a month, of course if I make the min payments I'll be paying for years to come and @ 21% interest I don't even want to think about how much it would end up costing! but it's nice to know if I'm having a bad month money wise I don't have to pay much.

I have no experience with them, but 52.5 lbs is not enough for a lot of exercises. You won't find them useful for bench press for example. But for pretty much everything else, you'd probably be fine. And ya they are expensive but who wants a whole rack full of weights.

If it were me I'd probably just get 20s, 40s and 65s but it sure would be nice to have them.
