Thinking of watching Donnie Darko.

This movie seems to have a rather large Internet following and I'm curious about it after having seen it mentioned and memed so many times but I'm Catholic and was absolutely terrified by The Exorcist in the mid seventies, so I am generally refraining from watching movies about demonic possession and the likes. I will not watch DD if this means having nightmares for the next year.

Opinions on this movie please? I enjoyed Eraserhead last year and rewatch it occasionally.

Thats true it has a huge cult following, but for me there is something about the character that I can relate to.

It's more the Sixth Sense then the Exorcist. Not scary, more mysterious super naturalish.

Watch the theatrical version rather than the directors cut. they had to change the music at several points for DC, just doesn't flow as well IMO.

Yeah the DC sucks, watch the theatrical. The DC loses some of the mystery and is far less effective.

Love the version of Mad World from that movie, others have linked it repeatedly, definitely worth listening to. That's right up there with the song from Magnolia, the "just give up song" (forget the name), for emotional impact.

Love Mad World, maybe it set me off on a huge stretch of weird music.

I'll watch it. I have never seen it but bought the used DVD over 7 years ago and only watched maybe 5-10 minutes and put it back on the shelf. I'll make a point of seeing it real soon.
