Hmmmm......seems kinda fishy.

Why?
1 - $1100 gets you a top quality (abeit heavy/big) IBM laptop.
2 - CD-RW/DVD drive
3 - 40GB drive
4 - lack of information on the site.
5 - refurb?
6 - an IBM A31 from IBM with 1/2 the mem, HD, and just a CD-rom starts at $1500.

Buyer Beware......

Yeah sounds kinda too good to be true. But then again these are older IBM models. So maybe they are just clearing their inventory. They do have a whole bunch of IBM laptops there. Anyone has any buying experience with this vendor ?

You could get a similar model for $1000 from ibm direct (new) on their ebay store a couple days ago. This is more than likly legit, it's probably off lease.

The one with the Free Palm is cheaper, lol. Looks like a pricing error, but if you get in, it's a hot deal.

They also have some R31s for around $900.

Yeah...price is kinda right.....still don't like lack of info.

On e*ay they have sold similar type units for $1375 - 1600, lesser units for about $1000

Guys,

Legit deal! All specs as listed with a 15" SXGA+ screen and a one year warranty through IBM (that throws me off a bit though). It doesn't seem to be a price mistake either. I spoke to Debbie, if you need to call in.

This is an excellent price on this laptop.
EDIT: I was told that these were brand new.

You asked about the palm 125 bundle deal or the 1199 A31 deal without Palm 125 ?

Depending on what you're looking for this might be better than the 999 eBay deal...

Main differences I can see from the 999 eBay deal a few days back:

15 inch SXGA+ (1400x1050) instead 14.1 XGA (1024x768)
40GB HD (40GN series) instead of 30 GB
32MB Radeon 7500 instead of 16MB Radeon 7500
DVD/CD-RW combo compared to CD-RW only
No embedded security subsystem
No wireless
1 year warranty instead of 3 year warranty
No tax (some states)
cheaper shipping (?)

If you don't need wireless (supposedly IBM's setup is one of the best notebook implementations out there), this looks like a pretty good deal. The eBay one cost around 1117 (inc tax+shiping).

Keep in mind that the SXGA+ resolution might be hard on some people's eyes. The 32M Radeon is a plus but isn't too great for the newer crop of FPS games out there. As for warranty, that's a toss up. Notebook parts are VERY expensive to replace if something goes wrong. However, IBM from what I've heard from everyone, generally have very few problems (unlike Dell).

Sorry about the confusion. I asked about the regular one that's listed at $1199.00. I'm on the ohone right now about the bundle, but it appears to be a mistake...

Got off the phone. Seems like a mistake on their end, but I'm expecting an email from the sales person. . .

the one year, instead of three year, warranty is a considerable hang-up for me. also wish there were an option for accidental damage coverage (e.g. dell's "complete care"). even if IBM is less likely to break down, all those integrated components in any laptop make for prohibitively expensive repairs (read: whole mobo, LCD).

remember that major credit cards often add up to a year to the manufacturer's warranty... see their websites for details.

Since when has Anadtechers adopted FW's 'call and verify' strategy?
Think hard...

Another difference is the warranty:

The Ebay listed A31 had 3 year parts / 1 year labor
The Warehouse listed A31 has 1 year parts / 1 year labor

Note that the Warranty varies by Model# within Product Family (Example - Family: A31 Model: 2652D3U)
The following link is a useful read when comparing deals. Note only the T Family offers - 3 year parts / 3 year labor.
Hence the price differential.

IBM mobile products standard limited warranty information

Hey guys, i just ordered a dimension laptop, came out to 1313.03 (after shipping). I can still cancel it, and it comes with a free palm m125.

Its a P4 1.7/128/DVD/ CDRW (seperate drives)/15 inch UXGA/nvidia with 32 meg/nic and modem built in. IT is a dell, this is an IBM. Im completely new to laptops, but i need a good one at a good price for my senior design project next term (our whole school is wireless, a laptop will come in handy big time). Should i cancel with dell (not scheduled to ship until 1/13), and risk it with this company? Or just stick with the dell??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

1) This IBM one is cheaper;
2) UXGA & nVidia are nicer;
3) IBM sounds more solid than Dell.
So 2-1, IBM wins.

ImpalaSS99:

1. What kind of warentee did you get w/ it.
2. If you are goign to be doing a senior design project, I'm getting you're going to need more RAM, Crucial is your friend Laptop companies always try to rip you up the @ss on memory prices :|

What kind of senior design project are you doing? Are you going to be doing alot of CAD or digital design? You eyes would probably thank you for the UXGA display. If you're the common college student like me, you know how sh!t just "happens" to get broken, so I'd probably go for the Dell if I were you. The extra 200 bucks for the Dell could definatly save you alot of headackes and heartackes down the road w/ the better warranty.

ImpalaSS99,

1) Which Dell laptop did you order, what's the model number? I hope it was the 4150.
2) What kind of warranty did you purchase?
