Call back and talk to other sales rep's. Or tell them something like "Darn, well, I only have $X in my budget for this and just can't buy that. Wish we could do something about it..."
This isn't Lenovo specific - all of these phone sales reps are on commission and have the power to take discounts off.
I hadn't seen your post then, but that's what I did. First I went to Fatwallet Forums and read the thread about the Lenovo holiday sale and I saw a lot of other people had the same complaints: The sale was supposed to be until 12/11, but they suddenly changed the prices. Also a bunch of people complained that they set up a Lenovo account but the information was lost. So, I called Lenovo again and got a different sales rep. This guy was sympathetic and helpful, whereas the other guy just said there was nothing he could do. He said he'd talk to a supervisor and put me on hold. When he came back he said he'd adjust things for me. He even said I could order online and thus be eligible for the Fatcash 7% discount. He knew about it, but the other guy had never heard of Fatwallet or Fat Cash. He said that after ordering I should call him up, go right to his extension and he would fix things. I'm going to work up the order right now. Hopefully, the Fatwallet discount will pan out. It's really impossible to tell, AFAIK, if that discount is working. Logging in at Fatcash.com, when I go to the store page and then Lenovo, I get asked to sign up for a $5 reward and it insists I log in again. Then nothing happens - it keeps wanting me to login. It's nuts. I found a way around that but don't really know if it's working right. Fatwallet is kind of nuts.
I'm wondering something. I was going to just order the same system I thought I put in a saved cart Friday night. That included 1.5 GB memory. Right now, as before, that's a $99 upgrade. However, also right now you can get 1.0 GB RAM as two DIMMs for no extra cost. At present, my thinking is just to order the same system as the other day and I think my rep will give me Friday's price and that will be it. But if it doesn't work out that way, I may opt for the 1.0 GB RAM and save some money. Thing is, I have the GMA950, which uses some of the system RAM, so available RAM for the OS is less than 800 MB, and that might not be too good for Vista, or so I'm told.
Edit: Fatwallet's FAQ says to login at Fatwallet, go to the Stores page and follow the links to the sales. It says to do it without waiting too much, doing any searches, etc. to make sure your discount will register. When I open a new browser and go to Fatwallet, it shows that I'm logged in (i.e. there's a link to "Log out" so I presume I'm logged in!). I just have to assume I'm logged in and go to Lenovo and order....
