Mmmm not bad, very similar to my E1505 I got about 1 1/2 years ago, just in a much sexier ThinkPad chassis.

Few things:

1) Probably a good idea to select 1 dimm = 1GB instead of 2 dimm = 1GB. No difference in price and you can pick up a 2nd stick for like $20-30.

2) No integrated wireless? The 3945ABG radio button can't be toggled. Must be integrated as Centrino brand has to have wireless right?

3) T2400 = Core Duo 1.83GHz, not C2D like the logo next to the CPU says. There is a difference in performance at similar clocks, like 15-20% I believe. Too bad there isn't an option to upgrade this rather old CPU.

4) No option to upgrade video. Not really suitable for even light gaming.

Still pretty nice for a ThinkPad. Chassis and build quality alone make it worth looking at.

The 5400 RPM hard drive is the only really bad thing about this machine from what I can see. $80 bucks to get to 100GB 7200. I believe this is a Sata I (150) so you could buy your own an replace stock one, but be warned the cloning with the recovery partition can be a nightmare, so I would get recovery media while system is still under warranty and build the OS from scratch, assuming XP.

The difference is negligible at best between 5400 and 7200rpm notebook drives.

Anybody know how long this will last? I would really like to get this, but I have an claim being looked at over at paypal atm over a lot of money that may not get decided for a while.

edit:
Also, does anybody know if you can make or if you get recovery discs with these? I know it has a recovery partition, but if the hard drive fails at some point that doesn't help.

The difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm is not negligible, but modern 5400rpm drives are definitely the better value. Still, boot & hibernate times are noticeably faster. Esp if you're running Vista, get 7200rpm.

You can burn your own recovery discs, but they do not come with the machine.

FYI the 4-cell battery has pretty bad battery life.

The big performance difference is actually a combinations of RPM and the cache memory amount. I believe that many 5400's use a 2MB cache (cheaper) versus the 7200's 8MB cache. So you are correct the RPM makes some difference (not night and day) but the cache and RPM together do make a significant difference.

thanks to the OP. I just order one for my brother. Anyone know how long it'll take Lenovo to ship it? On my order it said Est. Delivery date 1/31/08. Which is like 3 weeks away.

I am getting invalid ecode from site. Just for the record, I made sure I had no extra spaces. Is this deal dead?

WARNING - Lenovo called me up and claims they will only honor one promotion on an order - in other words, they won't apply the 10 percent off the $599 deal, even though it was allowed on the webpage!

Now, my situation is unique in that I originally ordered without the paypal code, saw this thread and went to cancel and reorder. I actually had the new order ready to go, but didn't see anyway to cancel the old order. So I call up lenovo. The first support person was real helpful and said she could "pull back the order" and then send on to get re-ordered with the additional discount. She emailed a second guy, and after I emailed a reminder it got bumped to a third guy who called me up with the claim that you couldn't add the second code. I asked him point blank "Are you really going to tell this to all the people that ordered on the webpage?" And that's what he claims.... Might have just been his way of kissing me off.

I cancelled my order. I'll be real curious to read how it works out for others.

Ordered without any issue no phone calls from them. In fact, after emailing to inquire why I was being charged sales tax in my state they waived that as well.

Anybody have an update? I know they typically had a promised ship date of 1/31, but one of the reps. said that they often shipped sooner.

I'm still curious if Lenovo will honor the two coupons. That would make a liar out of the representative that called me up and claimed that all users with a "two coupon" offer would be contacted and told that they could only apply one coupon.
