I didn't see anyone else post this, but I consider this very hot. In CompUSA's ad this week is the APC Back-UPS XS1500. This beast can handle over 800watts, and is backed by APC's comprehensive damage protection. It is also EXPANDABLE to a whopping 3000VA with an optional 1500VA battery pack that docks in the stand with this unit. A quick pricegrabber search will show this unit retailing for no less than $190!

1500VA from a quality manufacturer for $99 has simply never happened until now. Anyone who has any value at all vested in his/her PC needs to get this UPS! Item available online or in-store.

postmarked means the post office has to stamp your mail by the 20th.

A long time ago OM had these (or very similiar, I forget exactly) on clearance for $30 out the door. That's what he's talking about. So yes, that was a better deal, but it's not available now and probably never will be again.

First off, dboy, they were not on Clearance, it was a PRICE MISTAKE then. Omax meant to put $99 after $30 instant rebate on the 1000VA version of this, but misprinted the ad as $30 after $99IR. It was corrected within two days and new ads were redistributed to stores. Yeah, it was uber-hot if you got one, but not many did.

Most OfficeMax stores only had one, two, or none available at the start of the sale as it was. These should be plentiful at CUSA and they're 50% more capacity, plus expandable.

Do any of you know where to buy replacement batteries for UPSs? Or is it simply cheaper to get a new UPS every time?

The best place to buy replacement batteries is on eBay. As to whether or not it is worth it, it depends on how much your UPS costs. If you have an expensive one, such as one of the Smart-UPS models, or the one this topic is about, then it's worth it to just get a replacement battery. But if you have something like a 500VA UPS, you can find replacement batteries online for about $10-15, so weight that against how much you could pay for a new one. Sometimes you can find 500VA UPS'es on sale for $20 AR, so it may not be worth it. Also, you have to consider brand of UPS. Belkin UPS'es are often on sale for $20AR at stores, but I've heard that they are not in the same league quality-wise as APC, and they handle power routing differently. The APC's are designed so that the wall AC outlet is continually charging the battery, and the battery actually provides the power to all of the devices connected to it. That way, when a power outage happens there is zero changeover for the PC to run off batteries. The Belkins I have heard actually pass AC power through to the device outlets, and switch to battery when an outtage is detected. I wouldn't use a Belkin to protect an expensive computer or server.

Thanks for your help. I actually bought mine from buy.com but maybe I'll cancel it and rethink that. The only problem I see with buying them on eBay is the amount of weight the shippers have to contend with.

But in any case, I will probably pick up one of these 1500VA UPSs and use this for my computer but use the 650VA (which is the one I have currently) for my A/V stuff. It just powered off suddenly last night, probably because of the battery.

Sometimes you can luck out and find a good shipper with a low flat rate, then you're golden. Just find out what the part number is for the battery you need and search for that.

I currently have the BX1500 powering my main PC and LCD, and a belkin 500VA powering my work PC, and a lowly 350VA APC powering my wife's tiny Optiplex GX110.

Actually I bought this exact unit for $99 AR from Micro Center two months ago. CompUSA had the same units marked down to $99 AR at the same time in-store, although there was nothing in their ads. I bought one there too.

Last month I got a APC 1200 (older shoebox-shaped unit with serial connector) from Wal-Mart on clearance for $49 with no rebate. Couldn't come at a better time. After years of steady electricity, my lights blink at least every other day. The PowerChute software now records them so I can give the electric company some better information.

I was about to ask the same thing. My 1100VA BackUPS Pro weighs 42 lbs. Have there been advancements in battery technology I'm unaware of?

that does seem unusually light. It even says the same thing on APCs web site so its not just a typo on CompUSAs site.

Im going to pick one up at the local CompUSA tomorrow ill let you guys know if it actually weights 25lbs.

Actually APC UPS models are standby units, Smart UPS are line interactive with their avr feature (they even state upfront in their manuals). Online UPS (like you mentioned to use battery all the time) run no less than $800 and are very heavy (2 transformers), so please don't missguide the rest of us with incorrect info
