So I got water in my ear last week when I was taking a shower or something.. it wasn't bad, but then in the past few days it got a whoooooooole lot worse. It's a damn good thing I have ibuprofen (no I'm not turning into ZaneJohnson). I went to the doctor's, sans advice from ATOT , and basically he just cleaned my ears out, threw some peroxide + water in, and today... still can't hear worth crap. But based on what I've read, I don't have an actual ear infection (as my entire ear would become sensitive to touch). At least it's feeling better now, I think it's cause I put some swim-ear (mostly isopropyl alcohol) in, and that was able to vaporize some more water. Hopefully things will clear up by monday for work. In any even, I'm going on a booze cruise around baltimore tonight

cliffs for the lazy:
fenixgoon gets water in ear

went to doctor, probably not an ear infection as far as fenixgoon can tell
feels slightly better, still cannot hear from right ear.

Moist heat is your friend.

Damp hot towel or a heating pad and damp towel. Put in some balled up cotton or an earplug in afterward.

Ear Infections cause your whole ear to be sensitive? Since when? I have pretty extensive experience here too.

If it's swimmer's ear shouldn't it have passed out by now? (Assuming you don't sleep on your side with your bad ear up)

Your cliffnotes are almost as long as your original post!!! Are people really that lazy that they can't read a couple sentences nowadays?

Last time I had an ear infection I thought it was wax or something (because I had hearing loss), but it turns out it wasn't, it was a painless infection.

Don't assume that just because it doesn't hurt it can't be infected.

typically infections cause the ear to become sensitive.

unlike most ATer's, i actually decided to go to the doctor of my own free will. i guess i'll pay him another visit this friday (pain is subsiding, so i can deal with it for another week).

I demand that you post for medical advice next time. If not, who else will get my uneducated opinion? Do you really want to risk that?

Also let me know if you're coming to DC at any point. Beers could be had.

I've suffered from swimmer's ear for many years. it sux. Once you get the water trapped in the ear, basically, it can start to grow a fungal or bacterial infection in the ear. THAT'S where the major problem comes in.

When I get it, invariably, I end up having to have a "wick" put into the ear so the antibiotic eardrops can get into the ear canal. (that's another "pleasurable" experience by itself)
