This forum is aging... Here's basically old people complaining

1. This message-board time forums aren't growing today. New young user base growth here is basically zero. (who the hell finds ATOT & how today?)

2. So this forum is essentially just aging members complaining all day (look at the topics here, especially now).

I found this place back in college. Now I'm in late 30s, wtf.

Social media took the place of forums, except for the giant infinite forums that is Reddit. There's no real reason for younger people to come here, as we don't offer anything compelling versus social media or the other handful of large tech forums.

This isnt a helpful community board. Most people are looking to chop your head off as soon as they find an opportunity. Then it just unravells into a bunch of cursing.
Forget it. Its just a waste of time.

Some boards are moderated better and threads get shut down quick if you start attacking the person rather then actually trying to discuss the topic but since this forum likes the sound of a bunch of babies yelling and screaming then so be it. If thats entertainment to you then have fun. But be very careful trying to get serious answers here.
The technology side of this forum can be alot better though, like if you were asking for a cpu recomendation etc

Sadly the truth, which I find sucks, forums are a much more intuitive platform. Reddit/social media is basically "topic du jour" then it's gone. Like try finding a 20 day old post on FB or Reddit and continuing the conversation. Not going to happen. It's long gone. It's "there" but it's not like a forum where it's easily accessible.

And there's all the other weird ones like snapgram or whatsup or w/e wizbang things that the kids use now days.

That is one of the biggest faults here imo. Name calling, personal attacks etc are allowed. Most other forums don't allow it. Though it seems the bigger forums tend to be the ones that do. Even Reddit does.

Actually. Say something negative on Reddit and you get downvoted. Simple things like 'What is your fav fruit' Me: 'Apples' x100 downvotes. 'Meet my first pupper' Me: 'Your puppy have big eyes' x13 downvotes. Basically, if you say something negative on Reddit you get downvoted. So basically every comment you see is always positive or funny. So most of the comments are fake or karma whoring. I dunno have you realize this? Is it just me? Reddit is Illuminati.

I don't think it's that bad here. The extremes are a complete "safe space" where any negative thought is verboten, or a wild West where trolls and flaming is unchecked. As long as we are somewhere in the middle I'm okay.

I don't mind profanity, but it doesn't deeply trouble me that it's frowned upon here (it's only banned in technical forums, and in thread titles) as profanity is so overused in most circumstances that it becomes meaningless. If you are going to say "fuck", it better mean something, for fucks sake, or no one will take you fucking seriously. Fuck!

The ideal is free speech across the board, but it's just an ideal. It never exists in reality, be it online or in the "real" world.

I believe personal attacks are allowed in P&N, but nowhere else. Mild swearing is allowed in all the "social" forums, but nowhere else.

Here's my theory.

Since the dawn of man they were born with this need to be right, they had this lust to have power and control. It is precisely this that may be what brings on the 7th extinction. Or it will be from mother nature herself. Which ever comes first. But if man kind can prevent his own extinction then we will have achieved the greatest thing ever since landing on the moon.
