I had my 15th forum anniversary recently. I thought about starting a thread, but I'm not really into self-promotion.
Let's be honest, it would be that way here too if given the chance.
This is why I made the Cheers reference a while back. But this place still has a use: it gives a nerd perspective on adulthood.
For example, if I want to know if a certain driver will work with a new GPU I look to Reddit. Meanwhile if I want to know how a nerd handles protesting yearly property taxes or handling their children's expensive hobbies I look here.
So true. I try to stop myself when I can.
The funny thing is it's the people/posters that keep me coming back more than anything else. There are a few people here (most actually) I have legitimate positive feelings about, while a Twitter or Reddit feels like shouting into a crowd of strangers in comparison.
TridenT is the only reason I'm still here.
Oh and Kaido as I still have more kitchen gadgets to acquire.
I think social media is taking a bite out of forum users. Also, there are a lot more means of entertainment these days than 10 years ago. My guesses.
And for me, I was really active on forums for the first 10 years (99-2009) but their newness factor wore off. I don't spend much time in forums anymore.
Somewhat ironically this is one of the most popular threads of the day
Let's be honest, it would be that way here too if given the chance.
this brought me out from dead grave too. This thread might be a last farewell before forum finally rests in peace.
Maybe I am stupid but Reddit forum layout sucks.
Desktops are on their way out also...

LOL ... and to think that I believe it had some sort of restriction (at least initially) on who could start threads in there.
Yeah that sure worked out well.
Maybe I am stupid but Reddit forum layout sucks. I like traditional forums. As for less folks posting some of the blame goes to the very folks on this forum.
Same here. Does anyone actually follow topics on reddit or do you just do a stream of consciousness sort of thing.QFT. That place is a massive fuckitry of suck. I look at the first post and the following and from there I'm lost.
Glad to hear it, I'm heavily invested in Palm Pilot futures.
I read a short amount of comments to get a feel for the article it links to, but I tire of them quickly. I primarily use reddit as a news source. I haven't logged in in months since they started tracking users more closely.Same here. Does anyone actually follow topics on reddit or do you just do a stream of consciousness sort of thing.
