A cop just pulled me over and gave me a ticket for going through a red light. I SWEAR THE LIGHT WAS YELLOW. But now it's just my word against his. Judical process my ass, I'm a victim of a guy in uniform who has a quota to fill. I saw the bright yellow light as I went through the intersection. I would admit if I was wrong, I got a speeding ticket a while back, and I knew I was speeding. But this is just utter bullsh|t. :|:|:|:|:|:|:|

perhaps the light changed after you passed the light and were still in the intersection...

Sometimes you get the shaft. It's as simple as that. If the officer looked at the light and saw it was red, and saw your car going through the intersection, you are getting a ticket.

Quotas are illegal by federal law in any law-enforcement practice.

You probably just got an anal cop on your ass. Challenge it. Tell the judge that the light was yellow, you didn't have time to slow down, and you made a rational driving decision.

Hell no. I'm not about to give excuses that I couldn't slow down. There is nothing in the world wrong with going through a yellow light even if I could slow down.

If it turned red as you were going through it, unless you were doing over 45-50, you should've been able to stop. More then likely you saw it was a yellow light as you approached and knew there was a possibility of it turning red while you were in the intersection. I've done it before myself. Yellow lights take some time before they turn to red. It's not like it was magic or something.

Next time be more careful around yellow lights, they're yellow for a reason. Technically you are supposed to stop at a yellow light unless you are too close to the light to stop safely.

Here's a novel idea for you: If you see a yellow light, STOP! You did the crime, now you're just being a whiny little girl about doing the time. Drive smarter and you don't have to worry about it. At most intersections you save 30-45 seconds by running a yellow. Does it seem worth it now?

Bzzt wrong. Well at least technically. There is NO OFFICIAL QUOTA for law enforcement agencies. However there is an "unspoken" quota. That's why people should be extra careful near the end of the month driving.

I've got a lot of relatives in various police forces and only 1 has an exact quota. That quota is very very low. Generally, the supervisors look at how cops compare to other cops. If the average cop writes 100 tickets a month, any that write 15 are going to be talked to about laying down on the job and any that write 300 are going to get smacked for being an idiot.

Oh please, spare me this P&N crap. He failed to yield to a yellow light. You are supposed to be prepared to stop at a yellow light, and if it just turned red he obviously had plenty of time viewing the yellow light and to stop. Giving a person a ticket for a traffic violation has nothing to do with the administration. Go back to your cave troll.

Legally I do not think they are supposed to. However, that being said, I imagine most departments in the country have some 'unofficial' quota.

In Dallas, for instance, they don't have a quota for tickets but I believe every month a police officer has to score so many points to keep in good standing. Points can be earned from domestic abuse calls, traffic accidents, helping stranded motorists and all of the other things that police officers do. However, as is my understanding, they get more points for traffic citations than anything else so they are almost forced to concentrate on that to meet their monthly point requirement thing.
Again, that was how it was in Dallas a while back, it may have been changed because the police department was corrupt as hell (entire city is) so maybe the new Chief got rid of that program.
